King Doom -> Editor resource amount glitch (11/30/2013 10:14:24 PM)

I noticed this earlier, but if you use the editor to change the amount of resources on a planet, for example if there is chromium present and you increase it from 20000 to 120000 then go back to the regular game the resources will snap back to what they were before you changed them in roughly five seconds time. This happens on planets you own as well as uncolonised and uncolonisable worlds and moons.

Between this and the entire 'RESOURCES SHORTAGES EVERYWHERE' HAVE A BILLION POP UPS TELLING YOU HOW YOU AREN'T BUILDING ANYTHING EVER' thing that's going on I'm kinda starting to think someone over there really really doesn't want people building stuff in a game about building space empires.

Are you sure this happens with smaller changes? I remember looking at this a few months ago and there seemed to be a maximum amount of resources allowable at each planet. If you exceeded the maximum, you would indeed snap back to a lower amount. So does this still happen even if you set smaller mineral amounts? If not, then I think the problem is that you've exceeded the maximum resources allowed on the planet.

You are indeed correct sir, the minimum is 0 the max is 1000, the ranges go from 0.0 to 1.0.

I'm not exceeding the max amount, if you do that it just gets set to something like 300k automatically and I've found randomly generated planets that have resources over that limit anyway, usually gas giants.

It doesn't matter what you set the amount of the resource to, up or down, it snaps back to what it was a few seconds after you close the editor.

Ok, I have tested it, and I confirm that I don't personally see the behaviour you're seeing. What I find is that the maximum mineral content seems to depends on planet size and on the mineral quality figure (i.e. the figure you see to the right of the quantity in the editor box). I found that increasing planet size would allow the planet to keep a higher mineral level. I also found that increasing the mineral percentage would allow the planet to keep a higher mineral level. I don't see the mineral amount resetting all the time, but it does reset if I go beyond certain limits.

I imagine Matrix would need to see one of your save games to try to reproduce the problem, assuming they're not already aware of it.

Just tested it myself and yeah, it seems that now planet size suddenly limits the quantity of a resource a planet can have, making the ability to enter custom amounts utterly pointless because whatever you put in will be automatically changed anyway.

That's definately new and probably something that came with the Shadows xpack because in previous games I definately could go massively over the amounts I can place on planets now (I used to add custom worlds to all the AI home systems so they'd have all the resources they needed to start and keep having 'fun' pretty much right from the start of a game.)

Anyway, it really is something that needs fixing, because it pretty much makes a big chunk of the planet editor utterly pointless.
