Hi,

just in case some of you might be interested: after an unsuccessfull funding campaign last year there is a new Kickstarter campaign featuring legendary Wings of old Amiga fame. As most former Cinemaware titles Wings had a immersive story. I believe some of us remember this classic and I think Wings brought many people into flight simulations (while the game itself would not qualify as a flight simulation per se).

While the current campaign seems to reach the funding goal more backers are always welcome to reach the stretch goal. If you are interested take a look at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/850516062/wings-remastered-edition

I don't remember Wings, but then I never owned an Amiga [:(]. The remake looks fantastic, I will definitely put it on my radar! Thank's for the tip and info! [:)]

One of my favourites on the Amiga.
For the sake of good old times I have pledge it, but what I really want is this baby: :)

Your loss on two points. No Amiga to relish the wonderful graphic colors over the first PC's and no WINGS one of the best arcadishlike flight simulators I ever play. It was better than Knights of the Sky and Blue Max both. It had an immersive factor over all others. When the dog dies it will make you cry.

Too modern and detailed and complex compared to WINGS. Wings you didn't have struts and flaps to worry about just flying and shooting and becoming an ace. Nothing like it since. Greatest game of all times for an arcadish flight simulator arcade game. You didn't just shoot planes, you had balloon busting events, shoot down the gotha's and train and infantry and base straffing and a diary storyline you went by for each mission.

Wings got me to games like Rise of Flight, Red Baron and others...but no game ever had this story and this atmosphere.

I hope some of you pledged (as I did).

I have Rise of Flight, but prefer the SP, pilot career and the great great historical semi-dynamic campaign that OFF offers.
RoF have a better damage, flight model and better physics in general, no doubt. But OFF has a better WWI immersion feeling; everything seems much more alive and it's like you are piloting in WWI rather than just piloting a WWI aircraft. And the campaign is just... let's say unbeatable.
WOFF (the new version) will improve all of the immersive aspects of WWI, and give a better AI, campaign, etc.

Any of you ever play or get Roogames Bloody April Wings over France? http://www.roogames.co.uk/wings.htm

It's not a flight simulator it's more of a boardgamelike game. But, you still get squads to build and times of the day to go out and look for the enemy. It has a demo, give it a try sometime.

wodin -> RE: Do you remember...Wings? (12/2/2013 10:59:54 PM)

Yes I did..sadly restricted to a low res..but a good little game based on a boardgame.

Wings Over Flanders Field webpage is up and it sounds absolutely amazing.

Wings and some other associated programs actually had their video and sound production done here in Hobart for some reason. Some of them had Australian narrators, perhaps for that reason. I had downloaded some from YouTube and when I noticed this I walked in to the company not long ago and asked about them. There is a new owner but he said, "You know, I was going through some old tapes the other day and found those".

He is thinking about transferring them to DVD. If you're interested, you should send an email to...

http://www.winningpost.tv/contactus.htm

I'm not sure about the legal situation involved but it can't hurt to enquire and I guess he'll check that out with Discovery Channel/NatGeo or whoever it was.

Cheers, Neilster
