Gunner98 -> Large game issues (12/7/2013 1:17:25 PM)

Me again. [:D]

Some observations when the AU count gets over 2000.

-Allied units no longer show up on the map
-Sound files seem a bit screwy - launching an Aim-7 sounds like a 747 taking off.
-freezes more frequently (no surprise)

Save game attached, also a case of SARH not holding illumination. F-14s NE of Enterprise firing on some Fencers, game froze so can't be more specific.

I suspect that this scenario is just too big, but I'll keep pushing through hoping your fine work will make it manageable at some point.

Also having a save game crash and a startup crash, probably related to the size of the file. See my other posts.

The SARH illumination issue is from 'Red Rippers #11 (31W, 59N) firing at Attack 719 & 721.

D just kicked out a build to beta that may address as there was a performance enhancement in it. We'll take a look at the SARH issue as well.

Sorry if you've seen this a million times but some quick things that could help performance:

If the air base will never be a target use the single use airfields. Unit count counts.
Don't make the game call on the navigation code for merchant ships or something like that. Give them a manual plot through the Aegean etc.
If you have neutral sides that are just environmental (fishing boats, commercial, platforms, etc) blind them so they're not performing complex sensor calcs.

Thanks
Some of the bases that I put in early have the full up layout and I'll swap them out for Single units ones.
The only 'neutrals' in the game are whales [:D], and I've sunk a couple already. They have manual plots. The other sides in the game are all targets - the Air & Sea LOCs.

Will fine tune this before releasing later this weekend I hope

What is the correct way to blind a unit? Delete all sensors from it?

Fonz -> RE: Large game issues (12/7/2013 4:08:44 PM)

Set the awareness level to "Blind" in the Add/Edit sides dialog:

Mike, what is a single use air field?

An airfield that you import from the Import units section will have very realistic layout with a large number of units - hangers, control tower, parking areas, access points etc. They can easily run upwards of 100 independant units grouped into the air base.

A 'single unit airfield' is just that. An airfield with all the facilities - runway, parking, fuel, C2 & Ammo, all in one unit. It is a big space saver, but is not very realistic if someone was to attack it.

Thank you sir.

rytech -> RE: Large game issues (12/10/2013 3:16:58 AM)

I've been having problems running this scenario on my computer. Whenever I load it, it will run for about 2 minutes and then freeze, every single time. If I reload the autosave, it refreezes after less than 5 seconds.

The CPU on my laptop is 2.2GHz so I don't think its a matter of insufficient computing power - but this is the only scenario that this is happening on so it's really odd.

EDIT: I think I've managed to isolate the issue. Apparently my computer doesn't like Build 476 b/c now multiple scenarios are freezing after abnormally short periods with it. Reinstalling B474 seems to fix the problem.

Dimitris -> RE: Large game issues (12/10/2013 7:41:12 PM)

Thanks. Crash problem fixed in Build 478.

For performance.... try not laying sonobuoys over _half of the Atlantic_ .
