bbbf -> Ammo Dumps/Trucks etc (3/5/2001 8:56:00 PM)

Been thinking about the whole artillery park problem, and was wondering if the following my provide a partial solution. As we all know, ammo dumps are full of high explosive, a hex is only 50 yards wide,so...if any ammo supply goes up all troops in the surrounding hexes at least should be suppressed damaged destroyed. Maybe they could be handled like artillery where an ammo truck is like a small bomb say 1 hex around damaged whereas an ammo dump may have an effect much further out. If this was to happen it would stop people parking artillery on/adjacent to ammo supply points for long periods of time as if the supply point was destroyed they may lose the unit. This would make people more likely to use the more accurate shoot & scoot tactics. Just a thought, may not be possible but we have such lovely explosions when they go up that I'd just like to extend it a bit 8)

I tend to consider ammo trucks and dumps as abstract entities that represent the existence of an ammo supply line. That relieves a lot of the agonizing about reload rates, capacity of the truck and why one ammo truck can reload an artillery piece, a tank and an engineer squad. Part of my attitude comes from the fact that I usually play big battles with battalion/task force sized units. At that scale, the presence of "an ammo truck" becomes slightly problematic. If you condider the ammo truck to represent all of the ammo trucks that link the battalion to the rear area, it's easier to think about. Until it blows up.

If anyone has not seen an ammo dump blow up, you need to! Just make a battle and buy a dump and a few opposing units to attack it. Its quite a show! ------------------ An old soldier but not yet a faded one. OK, maybe just a bit faded.
