robertl123456 -> Christmas wish list (12/13/2013 8:52:34 AM)

During my trials of both NetPlay and solitaire games I thought I would make a wish list in items (not bugs) that would enhance the game experience and learning curve.

1. Itemize the DRM in the combat resolution instead of presenting the net sum of all. That way one can more easily lear the game mechanism.
2. Make it possible to "convert" saved NetPlay game to solitaire game. Sometime it would be interesting to continue abondoned games in solitare mode.
3. Make an override feature so that it is possible to move any units during any phase (maybe a right-click-on-unit option). Maybe possible to toggle on/off or need to be confirmed by opponent. This feature would help in execute planning and testing scenarios as well as help with "game-ender" misstakes that can be remedied under a gentlemans agreement.
4. A current bug list in the forum, so that we know what has been reported and do not need to send in reports.

Please feel free to comment/expand the list.

Cheers

All good suggestions.

I agree. Good suggestions indeed...

I have a one! Oddly enough, I miss the pie shaped reinforcement pool from WiF. I'm finding that for whatever reason I'm having a harder time with production planning when I have to look through each turns reinforcements. Guess I need to pull out the pen and paper and start recording things!

1 - The DRM is broken down in the Combat Resolution form. It isn't in the most minute detail simply because there isn't enough room on the form to list all ~20 possible items. Instead they are summarized by subset (e.g., terrain).

2 - A nice idea but that would let the players see what the other player sees: US Entry and Neutrality Pact markers.

3 - That introduces all kinds of problems because the rules are coded based on the current major power and the phase/subphase of the game. We have a similar feature for debugging and it can cause a wide range of crashes if not used oh-so carefully.

4 - Bug lists are extremely dynamic. Trying to maintain one for public viewing would be a tremendous burden. For example: "I posted a bug yesterday and it isn't on the bug list. Why not?". Of the 440 emailed 'bugs' that I received in the first 18 days post-release, I have 17 remaining that still need more investigation. Even now I'm not sure that all 17 are bugs. If I had been maintaining a bug list for the forum, that would be a massive list with at least 423 edits. It's enough hard work just to record and process everything reported as a "suspected bug" without having to 'talk' to everyone about them. 'Conversations' via email or in the forum take time and while I do not mind conversations at all, I do have other demands on my time. Combining the posts in the forums and the emails I receive, I think of them as my phone ringing every 15 minutes throughout a 10 hour day, 7 days a week. Simply taking 'messages' for each of them subtracts from the hours I have left for fault isolating and fixing bugs.

I like this and have some ideas about how it could be coded easily. But that would be a new feature and they are verboten for the foreseeable future (e.g., post AIO and PBEM).

Awesome! I can wait.
