Problems with current game. First, it loaded but crashed when the Germans tried to use their FW200 in the Red Sea to declare a search. Now it won't even load. Never had this problem before. And to cap it all this site tells me I can't upload a .gam file to send it to you?!

Try compressing the savegame in a .zip archive.

To continue your game try and find an auto-save file close to where you were. It sounds like the gam file is damaged.

Yes, I did restore the game from an auto-save but it has become very unstable and now crashes on all naval searches except reactive ones eg of rebasing collapsed Vichy ships. It was fine until I installed the latest update if that is significant?

ps - I notice game is very unforgiving of overstacked oil, deleting the whole stack of 5 rather than just the one you accidentally added, seems a bit harsh. You wouldn't have that happen in a tabletop game. You wouldn't overstack the oil in the first place, but would any opponent make you delete the whole 5 if you did?

Sorry, can't zip the file because my free trial expired and I don't use it for anything else. Could I fool the system by just saving as using one of the other endings? Or is there another way to send in crashing games for debugging?

If you are using Windows, right clicking on a file name should bring up a menu list where one of the item is "Send To". That will let you zip the file (without having to buy software).

In general, DO NOT try to edit GAM files. They have individuals 'lines' which are too long for most editors. The result is that the editor chops off the end of the line that it considers 'excess', thereby damaging the file.

Tried that, just goes straight to a screen inviting me to buy winzip......

Try uninstalling Winzip and see if the send to function works.
