farflamex -> Entire private sector just disappeared. (12/25/2013 3:35:17 AM)

I have a vague feeling I read this somewhere before on these forums but I can't find anything.

My game was running along nicely, lots of stations mining and lots of freighters and mining ships. Then suddenly, every single one of them has completely disappeared and my docks aren't building any new ones, so my entire economy has ground to a halt. This seemed to happen at the same time as I was building my first colony ship and also upgrading my small space port to a medium one.

They weren't attacked - apart from a few pirates I'm not at war. I do have working freighter designs and I'm in desperate need of them. Mining stations are completely full of cargo and new colonies require resources to get up and running.

Any idea what's happened?

As an addition, I've just added a couple of small freighters in the editor and they're going around doing their business as usual. Checking the empire screen, I see that the private sector is 55k in debt and running at -6k, so presumably the private sector has somehow gone bust and can't afford to run ships any more? I've never seen that happen, is there anything I can do about it?

Hmm, delving a bit further into this, the problem seems to be that the maintenance costs of the mining stations is too high. I do tend to build mining stations at every useful planet. Still, usually that just seems to generate more profits and more ships to service them. On this occasion, now there are no ships, how can I get things running properly again (other than restarting which is looking like the only option)?

1st Lower you taxes, money generated by planets are 100% flow into private sector THEN private sector pay to state a tax whitch you set at planets. So less taxes more stands at private sector. And you get this cash back as bonus income when private sector starts build ships again.

2nd design more efficent/cheaper ships/stations for private sector. Remove all unnecessary stuff.

I have the same situation in my current game:
no freighters after building my first colony ship and also retrofitting my small space port.
I set the tax at 0% on my 2 planets and a year later: still no freighters.
The private sector is at 73K in cash and with a cashflow of 10K...

Francoy, interesting that it happened to us both at the exact same stage, i.e on the first colony ship + space port upgrade. Must be something about those changes that's causing a problem to the system.

Vorteex is right though, my designs are inefficient, particularly my stations which I probably arm too much. I'll start again with better designs, and keep my eye on the private sector finances.

I have just run a test: (with latest beta of the game)
Start an Empire game, build a colony ship, set tax at 20%:
6 months later: the AI start to retiring all it's freighter.
My cashflow is negative ,but the Private sector is still at positive cashflow.
Why is it retiring all of it's freighter?

Well, i removed the comment about Harsh homeworld, because i retried the same test with a Trying Homeworld, and i eventually got the same problem: Ai retiring freighters.

I think that when you have a negative cashflow in your State empire, that's when it happen.

Many have tried, more have fallen in trying to work out the enigma that is Distant Worlds.

Welcome to the madhouse, I am still trying to work things out after nearly two years and am only moderately brighter on the lighbulbs, I love the game, paradoxes and all [:)]

Must give you a major thumbs up on your avatar [:)]

Sorry for the confusion:
I was using the government corporate nationalism.
That's a special case where the Private sector use the money from the State.
So when the money from the state goes negative, the private sector crash with it!

So many details...
