I hadn't noticed this before today, but it seems every time I retrofit my fleet it disbands.

It's not a major issue early game with just a few ships to reassign to a fleet, but later it really clutters things up especially if you have multiple fleets.

Am I missing something? Why would a refit order cause a fleet to disband?

OK. Something is really going on with fleets. Now I'll assign ships to a fleet. Assign the home colony, defend/attack, and range. Everything looks good for awhile like maybe a minute at best and then the fleet is disbanded into individual ships.

Is there a limit to the number of fleets assigned to the same home colony? Is there a known bug?

I had this same issue when I was playing with fleet management on auto. The game would just remove all the ships from the fleet and assign them to other fleets or make a new fleet.

Hmm...That may very well be the case. Early game I've been setting to auto because there isn't much more to think about than system defense. I'm not sure why the use of automate would cause fleets to break up.

I keep fleet formation settings on manual, and I have never had a fleet auto disband on me. May I suggest you keep your fleet creation on manual, and then assign missions, postures, etc. Seems to work for me, so far.

Yeah I ended up just putting them on manual, which is what I normally do but it just seemed easier in pre-warp to keep them on system defense automation.
