NightReaper -> How many troops? (1/5/2014 5:53:17 AM)

Anyone have the amount of space each kind of trooper takes up when being transported on a ship? The in-game Book of Knowledge doesn't address it. Is there a method of loading less troops than the ship will hold instead of just selecting load troops button? How about determining probable success rates of invasions? Is there a standard number of troops that should be landed, i.e.. two invaders for each defender, 1.5:1; 3:1? You have my gratitude...[&o]

Infantry/SpecOps take 100 space, armor 200, PDF 400. Number of invaders is irrelevant as strength between races differs. An Atuuk empire invading a Boskar colony would need a much bigger numerical advantage than a Boskar invading an Atuuk colony. You should only look at overall troop strength to assemble an invasion force that can take out the defenders in a quick and decisive manner (as troops on a colony regenerate longer battles favor the defender). Usually I aim for 2:1 on lightly defended planets, 3:1 on larger ones and 4:1 on homeworlds.

To load less troops than the maximum capacity of your ship / fleet, use the "Garrison" button on your colony. Every troop which is garrisonned won't be loaded.

Be sure to enforce the Armor/Infantry ratio on troop loads. Even a single Armor unit will give you the Armored Line bonus.

My typical Transport has 5 Troop Bays, and loads 3 Infantry and 1 Armor in the early game with 500 capacity. The first Techs can quickly bump that to 600 capacity.

Thanks for the info, gents. Good hunting and may the Gods of War smile on all your endeavors…. [sm=sterb020.gif]

Thanks for the size per unit explanation, Mr. Deathball.

The answer to me is to load as much as possible, to win quicker, to take fewer losses and to have a ready made garrison units for the conquest as well as enough for the next invasion.
