And of course they elect to move first:

Rutro.. Ivan could well be in serious trouble (Should be in serious trouble [sm=fighting0056.gif] )

As noted, the production gap has closed dramatically. Also looks like the Allies are planning on doing some serious bombing very soon.

Well, the Luftwaffe has prepared for revenge too:

May/June 1943, Axis impulse number 1:

Japan takes a naval action. Germany takes a land action. Those are pretty easy. But Italy.. What to do with the Italians? That's the big question. An air impulse, so the Italian airforce can be redeployed to protect important factories, to avoid nasty US bombings? Or a land impulse, so the necessary extra troops can be railed to Morocco? Or a naval impulse to use the TRS to get units towards Morocco? It's a difficult decision indeed. At the end, the decision is to take a naval action.

The Japanese puts in naval escorts (heavy ones, including CV's and BB's into the China and South China Sea. It transports land units across the sea to improve defensive positions. Tojo recognizes that his units are totally out of position for taking offensive actions in the Pacific. It remains to be seen if the Japanese can regain their momentum. This year it doesn't look like it.

The Japanese send a cruiser into the Timor Sea. That one searches for the US cruiser in the sea area, which provides supply for units in Australia. Axis roll 5, Allies roll 4, making the Timor Sea a large sea area.

The Italians put their TRS to good use and two good units are sailed into the Western Med, to aid the defense of Morocco. The Italian fleet sails out of Port Saďd into the Red Sea. The Italians search for CW shipping, but that one does not want to be found (Axis 5, Allies 6).

The last Italian SUB sails out of Lisbon. The CW has a NAV flying to protect the convoys. Still, the SUB commander presses forward the attack. Axis roll 1, Allies roll 2. The French cruiser Leygues is found. However, both commanders seems to miss there targets (no effect both ways). Both sides stick around for another round of combat. Axis roll 2, Allies roll 3. Again, the French cruiser pushes the SUB under water, preventing it from attacking the convoys (No effect both ways again). A fog rises next (Axis 5, Allies 5).

The sky is full of Italian and German planes. Fighter command reacts and a large air-to-air battle commences:

The moment the Axis air to air combat table goes towards the -3, they decide to abort.

At Ufa, the Marine Stuka and artillery opens fire, with devastating results to the defending units:

Germany rails three units to the Ostfront. Positions are improved in a number of places. Von Rundstedt moves his units to surround Ufa and orders an attack. Seeing that the Luftwaffe is in position to intercept, the Soviet bomber stays grounded. The Assault table is used by the Soviets:

At the Tashkent area, Prince Paul suddenly sees that the Soviets have overstretched themselves. He orders tactical movement towards the city, forcing the Soviets into a retreat.

May/June 1943, Allied impulse number 2:

The USSR takes a land action. The Wallies all take naval actions.

The Wallies move a lot of units across the sea. A small invasion force leaves Brisbane for the Timor Sea, consisting of slow BB's, a CV, a MAR and an INF. Convoy escorts are put back in place. The, Allies don't sail into the South China Sea, because of the superiority in numbers of the Japanese navy. First, all CV's need to get filled with planes again.

The Allies don't want to fight. However, since a CW TRS has picked up the Ethiopian HQ in the Red Sea, the Italians decide to fight, even against CW CV's. Axis roll 5, Allies roll 4. A naval air combat commences. It starts with Gladiators against the Gabbiano's:

Both sides decide to stay for another round. Axis roll 3 and the Allies 8. The transport ships, escorted by a lone cruiser are suddenly attacked by the big guns of the Italian BB's (4 surprise points used for a surface combat). 2 more points are used to increase damage:

Air warning sirens in Berlin and Dresden. An old HE-112 is the only defense for the area. It flies to Dresden, to oppose the Allied bombers:

May/June 1943, Axis impulse number 3:

The beautiful spring weather continues. Japan chooses a land action. Italy takes an air action. The OKH sends trains with additional supplies and ammunition to von Rundstedt and chooses a land action (offensive chit spend).

Germany flies two condors into the Cape St Vincent. Italy flies NAV into the sea area too. They search the area for enemy shipping. FTR command flies two Beaufighters as escorts to the fleet. Axis roll 9, Allies 1. The Allies don't want to fight in this sea area since there are loaded TRS in the sea area with the fleet. The loss of such a TRS loaded with an MOT equals 10 build points. No thank you. The combat is avoided.

At the Ostfront, Germany grounds strikes the city of Magnitogorsk. The Soviets react by sending a FTR, after which the Luftwaffe send up a FTR of his own:

Germany rail moves units into Murmansk and towards the Osfront. Italy rails a FTR out of Iraq to Italy. Japan railmoves a MIL into Ulan Ude.

Japan improves positions. Umezu is still slowly moving westwards:

However, at the Ostfront, von Manstein orders his troops into attack position. Rommel moves eastwards slowly and von Rundstedt decides it's time to use the extra supplies at his disposal. Student's para's are dropped in the Ural Mountains, where the notional is included by the USSR.

Centuur -> RE: A musical global war AAR... (4/17/2016 3:47:16 PM)

Several attacks are declared, with 8 units getting extra supplies from von Rundstedt. Germany flies a FTR during ground support in the hex with the PARA, preventing the Soviet Bomber to give ground support in that particular hex. However, the bomber flies to Magnitogorsk (which is under attack), instead. The Luftwaffe reacts:
