I started a campaign last night just to remember what it was like. Points still depend on the time period for me, but follow a general course no matter what the time period. Last night was about 3500 in 43, me as the Germans vs the Soviets. I had plenty to do what I needed to do. I don't buy tanks in platoons anymore no matter what the game (pbem/AI). I've yet to fill all the slots so I pick sections, this gives me more chances to rally. Four sections of armor with about two sections of my current experiment ie, flametanks, tank destroyers, assault guns, gliders, etc. or what ever I'm trying at the moment. So my total armor is between 8 and 12 units. About four sections mobile AA, when the air threat ceases they are hell against infantry and light armor and have often saved the day. One platoon infantry per armor section. Artillery depends, it's sort of the experiment of the day thing, lately on board stuff with ammo trucks. I always get a FO, in a pbem it may be a reserve but I always get one. I do buy ammo trucks for the core. I play with reduced ammo on and don't know how many times against the Soviets I've had to "reload" infantry, small mortars and main battle tanks, let alone the "nesting" of artillery, they are very busy units. I'd like to see the reduced ammo button a percentage so they would be even more important. When I first saw wagons listed I thought I'd never use them, I do. Very handy for moving mortars to ammo points or out of harms way and of course getting infantry across that open area, fast. I prefer trucks but I never seem to have all the battle points I'd like. Any extra points goes to infantry. In a campaign I don't bother with any elites unless it's the only way they come. In the battle last night I picked my old tried and true Stugs for my starting core armor and they performed well, touch and go in certain spots for a while but I only lost one to 35 Soviet tanks killed. The Stugs allow me the pleasure of the upgrade and the decisions involved. I don't know how many times I've just sat at the buy screen putting core units together only to never fight the battle and loving every minute of it.
