RJL5188 -> Two Map Scenarios (1/10/2014 1:32:33 PM)

any date when the two map scenarios will be available to play? Global War is awesome...but sometimes you just want to play the ETO or PTO.

Centuur -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (1/10/2014 5:08:51 PM)

There's so much still to be done. Patience is a virtue...

michaelbaldur -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (1/10/2014 5:48:17 PM)

it is very simple ... ignore one of the maps, then you have a 2 map game

LeeChard -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (1/10/2014 6:03:59 PM)

How do you handle US forces that would need to be sent to the Pacific and politics for war entry?

Dabrion -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (1/10/2014 6:54:08 PM)

Apparently it is very hard to code transfer pool and the modified us entry, this was asked before. ETA is an unknown acronym in the context of MWiF.. Matrix should pay another developer or open the code base...

RJL5188 -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (1/10/2014 7:30:26 PM)

thanks all...thats why matrixgames has the best forums in the world

IKerensky -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (1/13/2014 12:18:37 AM)

Thatīs a very bad new for me, as european 2 maps campaign is the only one I would ever play on MWIF... I simply can't stand the new Pacific War at European scale... Not in a game of two month turn and corps scale.... It simply doesn't make it to me and fail to deliver the world in Flames experience.

Numdydar -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (1/13/2014 4:14:56 PM)

Wow. That is what I love about the forums. So many differnt viewpoints on what people consider the way things need to be to have fun.

I actually like the unified map. With the extra ciites, units, etc. It still seems to work like it should. But if you find that such a bad thing, then I hope the two map scenerios will be done soon. Althiough, I would not expect these to be completed for at least 2-3 more months.

Dabrion -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (1/13/2014 4:51:04 PM)

What are you basing your expectations on? Do I read that correctly, you are just sure it will not happen anytime soon, because that is a correct prior belief for anything related to MWiF..? Do you have access more concrete information you want to share with us?

Would be nice to get a roadmap/milestones from Steve&co, or at least a priority list. From other threads is seems Steve wants to tend to AI for Q1 2014, along with bug fixing presumably.

Simple schedule: (1) bugs, (2) missing features promised in the Players Manual for MWIF, (3) AIO, (4) PBEM.

IKerensky -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (1/14/2014 12:53:39 AM)

AIO ?

Gizuria -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (1/14/2014 12:56:53 AM)

AI Opponent most likely [;)]

Dabrion -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (1/14/2014 4:48:23 AM)

Two-map scenarios fall in category (2), but are only a smaller part of (2). Is at least 2-3 month a realistic estimate?

Numdydar -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (1/14/2014 4:26:36 PM)

Steve will not provide any timelines given the past history of those. My 2-3 month estimate is just that, an estimate. This is my own personal guess based on my experiences in this field. I have no internal knowledge of Steve's/Matrix's schedule, nor am I a beta tester.

I just wanted to provide a very rough timeframe so that Kenensky would not expect the 2 map scenerios to be available in a week or two.

And yes AIO is the AI oppenent. That I am sure of [:)]

Johnus -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (2/22/2014 8:29:07 PM)

Still no word on these scenarios? One theatre at a time seems more than enuf while I'm learning.

Gizuria -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (2/23/2014 2:42:57 AM)

Yes, I'd like to have a very rough ETA on this too. I know it's possible to simply ignore the Asian map while playing a Euro-centric game to give us some sort of facsimile of playing Fascist Tide, my favourite WiF scenario, but I'd rather not have to fudge the amount of attention that the Commonwealth and US players should be giving to the Pacific Theatre of Ops. Without an AI opponent, it is a lot of work to play the Global war scenario playing all sides.

Bo has posted about his experiences playtesting Fascist Tide several times so we know a lot of work has been done on this one. Any idea just how much longer we might have to wait?

AxelNL -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (2/23/2014 8:39:45 AM)

Given historical reasons I would bet there will not be ETA's given. Matrix promised Netplay, and there are still solitair bugs being fixed (who otherwise would hinder netplay as well). Although good progress is made, there is still work to do before real progress can be made on the 2-maps.
But rest assured that Bo is your advocate, if he doesn't mind me saying so.

This is an excellent point. The map change is a "Big Deal".

The Japanese forcepool was originally designed with the much smaller Pacific Scale. Increasing the board size by some 2.5x (I think) is a big deal, changing play forever.

Unlimited breakdowns was eventually offered as an optional rule. However, personally, I do not think I would ever play with it. The WIF forcepools and counter make-up were not accidentally thrown together. These units are the results of years of testing and historical analysis.

I however am much more inclined to now use the new hexscale for two important reasons.

1) USSR was conquerable with the old hex-scale. People would build unrealistic "Siberian Walls" to exploit the hex scale change. I'm not sure that you can ever say you 'conquered' Russia in the new game scale. It depends on whether the railed cities count for conquest.
2) I have played quite a few games of Go. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_%28game%29 If you haven't heard of Go, it is quite an old game. However, the game is all about 'control'. The similarity of Go to the new scale of China is rather astonishing. In fact, I suppose you could say it was Chinese in design, even if the effect was completely accidental.

Having not finished a game of MWIF, I cannot say what the long term effect or consensus will be. I am optimistic.

Extrication of the Japanese Army to defend the homeland in 1945 does appear to me, to be a nearly impossible operation, without buying more offensive chits for unlimited combined actions...

Numdydar -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (2/23/2014 3:26:17 PM)

Well if you ever have played War in the Pacific AE Downfall scenerio or a campaign to '45 then you would know how difficult this would have actually been in '45. While it is just a short hop between Korea and the HI, there still would have been major losses due to the complete control of the skies and seas by the Allies. An interesting sipinet from this article highlights this
http://www.wwiihistorymagazine.com/current-issue/Jun09/kyushu.html

Two divisions were brought out of Manchuria while another came down from Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island, and the 40th Army headquarters transferred up from Formosa to take charge of the defense of the western sector of southern Kyushu.

The bulk of the reinforcement consisted of establishing and activating new units using troops already on the island in other capacities supplemented by new recruits and recalled reservists. By the end of the war, Japanese strength on and near Kyushu had increased to 14 divisions, including four in northern Kyushu, plus seven infantry and three tank brigades. An antiaircraft division and two fortification units along with assorted headquarters and a communications brigade completed the forces on Kyushu and nearby islands. Most of these units were activated after May 1945. At the time of the surrender, there were 78,283 men in northern Kyushu who would have been held in reserve and 276,550 in southern Kyushu who were to meet the invading forces—a total of 354,833 men. No further reinforcement before the invasion was expected.

AxeINL I never mind what you say about me or to me [:@] Okay Fascist Dog heres the ETA, when Bo finishes the 32 turns we will release Fascist Tide, [[statement not from Matrix]] The problem being it takes Bo a whole week to play one turn as he is very thorough with every move or and this is a strong possibility he has no idea what he is doing. [&:] and that could push the ETA back even farther [:(]

Bo is one of our best testers so watch what you say about him or we Europeans may take offense. [:)]

Maybe we should take a tea break and discuss this? [;)]

WarHunter -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (2/23/2014 11:35:20 PM)

I'm a little confused. Should i get a Pepsi or a Coca Cola with that steak? Based on the photo, guessing coke lost the turf war.

You got good eyes Warhunter I did not see that, I think when the Irish mob controlled that area you had to drink coke, now the Italian Mafia controls that area and they own the Pepsi plant need I say more [:-] Another thing you dont ask those kind of questions at 9th & Wharton or you just might vanish into the night[:D]

Shannon V. OKeets -> RE: Two Map Scenarios (2/24/2014 6:45:34 PM)

I lived in Philly for 26 years. When the Challenger fell out of the sky I was walking over to the Italian Market (9th and Wharton is in the heart of the Italian Market) to buy some fresh vegetables and fruit. I know exactly where I was standing when I heard that news.

There were a lot of stories about mob hits in the newspapers while I lived in Philly. The discovery of two bodies in the trunk of a car one very hot summer is most memorable. It was the smell that made people suspicious.[X(]

This is not a caesar salad place believe me, the picture you see is looking south on 9th street 2 blocks the other way [north] starts the Italian open market district looking a lot like the open air markets in Palermo Sicily. If you remember the Rocky Balboa [Rocky] movie this is the street he ran down when he was training past Pats steaks and the open market.

Some say he stopped for a cheese steak but I dont believe that as he was in training to fight Apollo Creed, and that cheese steak would have been a nono. [:-] The Bada Bings were about 10 blocks away near 11th and Snyder avenue close to the South Philadelphia bar and grille.

A not so funny story about that bar and grille, a waitress tells a story about a midwesterner visiting the area to watch his team play the Phila Eagles took his friends there to eat the Italian food that it was well known for. He was drinking pretty heavy and then he stood up and loudly asked the patrons where all of these so called Mafiaosos goons were, he wanted to see them.

Sitting two booths away was Nicky Scarfo [Bloodiest mafia boss in the history of Phila] and some of his under bosses and a few of his Capo's. The waitress panicked and called the police to get this idiot out of there which they did, the waitress felt that the idiot and all of his friends would wind up in a hospital or worse much worse. True story. No comment from Nicky Scarfo who is serving a life sentance for several murders.

Bo

These markets take up about 6 blocks on 9th street.

Sylvester Stallone as Rocky running down the 9th street Italian open air markets.
