Should surface weapon map rings use nuclear weapon ranges if nuclear is not in ROE?

That's an interesting question.

Something to keep in mind is that doctrines (and AI behavior in general) may shift faster than technical capabilities. Should we base decision-making on intentions or capabilities? (A dilemma very often posed in diplomacy, BTW). A unit may not have nuclear release at that very moment but may obtain said release soon; the capability will be there before and after.

(This BTW is the same reason we display range _rings_ for weapon ranges, incl. for weapons that actually have even a very narrow firing arc. A unit may face north now and south a bit later, but its weapon reach will be the same.)

I was tutoring myself using BB Iowa striking an interior airbase inside Algeria using Tomahawks.
I expected weapons release once I got within weapon range circle. Nope. TLAM range is only 675nm.
Nuclear range is 1350nm. Authorize nuclear, and away they go!

With this range difference, I would prefer is see rings based on non-nuclear weapons unless nuclear
is authorized.

May I second this request?

I had a situation where I was maneuvering a submarine into attack range with its SS-N-16 torpedo-carrying guided missiles, only to find that the big green ASW range ring I was looking at was for the nuclear depth charge version. I had already used up my small supply of torpedo-carrying versions, so my actual conventional ASW range was considerably smaller than I thought.

I think it could remove a lot of potential confusion if only the conventional attack range rings were in effect until the ROE changed to allow nuclear release. (Or perhaps a "nuclear coloured" range ring is an option, whatever colour that is??)

Sounds like a great idea. Idea added to our list.
