gravyhair -> my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/16/2014 6:09:57 PM)

I get a runtime error when I try to run the auto-updater. This hasn't happened before. Help?

paulderynck -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/16/2014 11:03:29 PM)

There's been a couple reports of this. Can you reload update.exe and update.dat from your CD to the World in Flames folder?

I've got the same problem [&:]

gravyhair -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/17/2014 2:11:19 AM)

I used my CD to reinstall and everything is fine. Funky issue, though.

paulderynck -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/17/2014 2:24:17 AM)

Did you have to reinstall everything or could you just install the two I mentioned?

I uninstalled the game and then reinstalled it.

Then I applied 1.0.9 patch and the updater now works perfectly.[:)]

paulderynck -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/18/2014 4:35:02 PM)

***IMPORTANT*** for all that may encounter this.

If you need to re-install, you'll want to first save any Screen Layouts and/or Map Views you built and any saved games you want to continue.

Kwll -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/21/2014 9:47:30 PM)

For the 3rd time today I have uninstalled my WIF game, then reinstalled thinking that under 1.10 the issue would not exist. (The last two times I did this using the CD) However, I still can not use the auto updater, it keeps saying

"runtime error!" Program D:\Games\World in Flames\Update.exe Abnormal program termination.

Any ideas?

paulderynck -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/21/2014 10:20:27 PM)

Sorry, tapped out, I guess trying the Matrix help desk is about all that's left.

I've the same problem...

Dabrion -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/23/2014 12:00:31 PM)

Have you tried running it with super cow powers (rclick->start as administrator)?

I get this now as well as of 1.1.1
This is a bug Matrix will have to fix themselves. Has nothing to do with the work of Steve.

Same problem for me.

Thats the error you get when components of the MSVC libraries are missing or inaccessible. Matrix/Slitherine should check if they depend on "MS Visual C++ 2008", "MS Visual C++ 2008 SP1", or "MS Visual C++ 2010". And provide the correct redistributable package along. I have them all installed and no such problems.

AxelNL -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/25/2014 10:45:25 AM)

Based on that, and the fact that I am getting this problem for the first time upgrading from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1, whilst others have had this starting at 1.09, that the following theory could be true?

- Matrix has updated their Visual C++ libraries twice over the past weeks.
- First update affected customers who missed two of those libraries. That started at 1.09
- Second update affected cusomers who missed one of those libraries, starting at 1.1.1

I suppose one of the work-arounds is to manually install those libraries yourself until Matrix does something about this. Do you have a link which is used best in this case in case another customer hit by this wants to try it? Albeit that downloading the upgrade manually is probably the better route to take.

Dabrion -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/25/2014 10:55:07 AM)

Could still be something else.. Installing the redistributables does not hurt though (make sure you get them from Microsoft websites or through Windows update).

pzgndr -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/25/2014 1:10:57 PM)

FWIW, I'm seeing this error trying to update to v1.1.1. I can update manually, but the auto update doesn't work. I reinstalled Visual C++ Redistributable and rebooted, just to see. Still getting error, so must be with game?

I'm having the same problem now too. I didn't with the last patch.

WarHunter -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/26/2014 12:00:21 AM)

My auto update went belly up when trying to use it. Forced to manually download. Never happened until this update.

Updater worked fine for me until 1.1.1. Now I also get this error. Manual download of the patch updated to 1.1.1 worked without a problem.

Centuur -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/26/2014 1:03:25 PM)

I've got the same message on one of the computers here (where I only run the official game, not the beta testing one). Just tried to update that one to the latest version and it stalls if I use the auto updater. Needs to be fixed by Matrix, I think...

hazmaxed -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/26/2014 5:20:20 PM)

I discovered the same problem when attempting to update to 1.1.1. As others have mentioned, I manually downloaded the 1.1.1 update from the matrix games website. I was able to install it with no problems.

The original post is 10 days old. If the problem needs to be fixed by Matrix Games, I have to ask...have they received the message that there is a problem?

I think so - they might even be trying to analyse what the problem is, it looks however very weird to me:

Today I tried auto-updating my bought version from Essen (in another folder), which was still on 1.04, and surprisingly that worked. That is an extra clue what could be wrong, however - I have no clue what kind of clue that can be.

Hello Everyone,

I have deployed what i hope to be the fix. Please try your auto updaters again and let me know if it has worked for you.

Cheers,
Gerry

Just clicked on "Check For Update" and got the same Runtime Error message I'm afraid [:(]

Dabrion -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/28/2014 2:24:29 PM)

Same here, are we supposed to get a new executable from a patch deployed on the website?

kjgokc2007 -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/28/2014 3:39:15 PM)

For anyone that had issues with the last patch. (& have a cd of WIF) Uninstall the game. And Reinstall from the CD. Then patch. (The download from Matrix did not work for me). * No saved games are lost.

* Uninstall using window remove program

Delete all the files (Not the subfolders or files from the install directory probably \WorldinFlames

Reinstall from the CD (The Matrix download didn't work for me)

Run and update.

(I run in windows 8... run in windows 7 compatablity mode... (Properties on the Desktop Icon) I also run as administrator on my computer.

Yes, I instantly get the Runtime error if I use the update.exe which is dated from early January, 2014 so must have been downloaded or patched as part of an earlier update process.

If I instead use the update.exe from August 2013 (from my beta test directory) - it works!

Maucat -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/29/2014 6:49:14 AM)

I manual dowwnloaded the 1.1.1 update from the Matrix site but the auto updater still doesn't work: instantly it goes the runtime error...

shaddock -> RE: my auto updater doesn't work after 1.09 (1/29/2014 1:18:48 PM)

Can someone please explain what the C++ runtime library is supposed to be.

Is it a library of functions the program calls and compiles with the game rather than having to have all of them included in the game?

Or is Microsoft constantly updating their version of C++?

Or is it something completely different?
