Linkowich -> Ground support phase! (1/17/2014 8:29:47 PM)

Im playing Barbarossa scenario I cant seem to intercept with my russian fighters during ground support interception phase.

1) I designate hexes to attack with germans.

2) WiF asks me if I want to fly in ground support, answer no

3) WiF asks russians if they wanna fly in ground support, they say yes

4) Russians fly in ground support BOMBERS

5) WiF asks germans if they wanna intercept and BAM air to air phase begins without the game asking russians if they wanted to intercept with fighters!

And I had 2 russian fighters that were within reach with HALF movement for interception.

I didnt have this problem in earlier patches. Thoughts?

Here's the sequence of play for the Germans when attacking and Ground Support takes place:

To fly ground support:
1. your opponent flies combat air patrol to potential target hexes;
2. you fly your selected attacking bombers, escorting fighters and combat air patrol to potential target hexes;
3. your opponent flies intercepting fighters or both bombers and escorting fighters to the target hexes;
4. you fly intercepting fighters to the target hexes;
5. fight any air-to-air combats;
6. AsA option 3: surviving bombers suffer anti-aircraft fire from AA units (see 22.4.2);
7. add the tactical factors of surviving bombers to their side’s combat value in the land attack;
8. return all remaining aircraft to base and turn them face-down.

You get no chance to intercept with the Russians because there were no German planes flown in step 2. The only way for you to get your fighters into the combats is to commit them as escorts along with your bombers. (Or to have flown CAP with them in anticipation of German Ground Support)

Edit: clarity

His complaint is that he didn't get to do step 4. He should have had an attacker intercept (or if you would prefer, a counterinterception) phase.

No. The complaint is on behalf of the Russian ("your opponent" in the rule) not the German ("you" in the rule). There ain't no step 2 or 4 for the Russian. Edit: I really mean: there is no step 2 or 4 for the Russian.

You're right. I thought there was a counterintercept phase for ground support but apparently there is not. However, I can confirm that even if you enable the CAP phase, it isn't currently working (skips the phase whether the box is checked or not).
