Playing against the AI to kill some time today, and this happens: quote: Sub attack near Kangean at 59,106 Japanese Ships xAK Sydney Maru #2, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage SC Ch 2 Allied Ships SS Pickerel, hits 3, heavy damage Japanese ground losses: Guns lost 4 (2 destroyed, 2 disabled) SS Pickerel launches 2 torpedoes at xAK Sydney Maru #2 Pickerel diving deep .... SC Ch 2 fails to find sub, continues to search... SC Ch 2 attacking submerged sub .... SC Ch 2 fails to find sub, continues to search... SC Ch 2 attacking submerged sub .... SS Pickerel forced to surface! xAK Sydney Maru #2 firing on surfaced sub .... Contact with submarine is lost One direct hit, one near miss, and a force to surface...and then the xAK sinks her with a sniper shot from the deck gun. The xAK sank as well.

In my PBEM, same thing happen but it was in front of 8 DD : 28 hits [:@] But in you case, I estimate this scenario to happen at about 0.0001% [X(]

You xAK didnt sink, it chased the submarine. Dont mess with the Japanese merchant marine, or else !

Yeah sometimes really cool stuff happens. I remember an I-boat of mine forced to surface by a destroyer. It totally went ballistic then and fired torpedos in all directions hiting multiple ships before geting shot to pieces.

I just had an S class sub surface against the CVL Ryujo (no escorts!) and engage in a surface battle. Needless to say the sub took heavy damage - but luckily it may have put 2 torpedoes into the carrier.
