dostalondrej -> Game wont start, virus issue (1/19/2014 9:33:35 PM)

I have two issues with the game I just bought.

1) My AVG antivirus notifies me that the installation file contains a virus "Adware Generic".

2) The game does not start. I click on the launch icon "Cross of Iron (Game Menu)", then I choose "Play Close Combat" and nothing happens.

Please advise me what to do.

Best regards

Ondrej Dostal

I suspect you're getting a false-positive off the game's copy protection system. But I am checking with the Matrix Games support people to see if they have heard any other reports like this.

What version of Windows are you using? If the game fails to start I think it's probably being blocked by your AV program, or perhaps isn't running with full privileges for some reason. Does it start if you use Windows Explorer to locate the file CCE.EXE in the game folder, right click it, and select 'Run As Administrator'?

Thanks,

Steve

I can confirm it's a false positive case. Unfortunately AVG is prone to false positives.

During the download and installation phase, AVG may launch a window asking you to take action. Please select "Allow".
If it ask this more than once, please click always on "Allow".

I had the same problem when I was using AVG AntiVirus 2012 Free Edition. I'm now using Avast! Free AntiVirus 2014 and I don't have those problems anymore. You need to make an exception for the games installer\executable file in the properties of the AVG program. Otherwise AVG will try to quarantine the file, if I remember correctly. If you don't add the exception, then every time you select the file it will notify you off a false threat and you'll need to go though the same thing again and again.

You need to go into avg and make an exception rule for the program easy.

avg > options > adv settings > exception > add exception

browse to matrix games folder and boom done.
