skigrinder -> Finding resources on AI-colonized worlds (1/26/2014 7:51:03 PM)

Is there a way to find specific resources on planets that have been colonized by the AI?
I can't find a setting in the resource planner to show AI-owned worlds.
It's a pain to have to click on each AI planet to see the resources on it.
Am I missing something?
Thanks,
skigrinder

Not sure what you want exactly. I don't need to study AI resources on a planet by planet level all that much :)

You need to select planets to see the exact resources.

If you select the system (click just besides the star on a somewhat zoomed out level), you can see what resources are in the system. I find this handy when "looking for a nearby fuel source". It quickly reveal "good mining systems" and is more handy if you recognize resource symbols.

On the galaxy map you can select "known resources" if you look for a particular one. This is useful when I lack certain resources, or wonder where the ultra rares are.

Sounds like he wants a target planner. If they need Chromium, which AI owned planet should they invade to acquire it. And nope, even if it is only inside enemy territory you cannot see the resources on the planner.

For the specific need (like chromium shortage), use the galaxy map. You do of course need to discover it first, but explorers should take care of that.

Personally, I hardly ever use the planner to find resource locations. Normal map, or galaxy map. I care where my mines are built, and feel that the expansion planner does not give the location info I want.

When target planning, I usually target GDP/quality vs resources. Resources will come within your new borders. [:D]

When you see the AI colonize very low quality planets, check the ruins or resources. It's usually something worth taking.

Sorry, I've been away for a few days.
I'd forgotten about the Galaxy map resource locator function.
To handle resource shortages, the ability see which AI colonies have what I need (and how close they are) is important.
Thanks Bingeling for the reminder.
