Hawkeye_BF -> In wich modus you play ??? (1/29/2014 7:53:46 AM)

Hi @ all DW-Gamer,

Fist, sorry for my poor english, I'am a German.

My Question is, what is your favorite modus to play DW. Have you some parts in "auto" modus or you play in expert modus an make all by your self???

I play DW in a self made mix of some great mods (DW extended, aprox 0.8 and PCM).
I make everting by my on in expert modus.

At the moment I play a shadows game as normal empire (X- Humans) in a 700 stars galaxy.
I'am 130 years after game start.

regards

PS.: Have anybody an Idea how i can push the performance of the game. I have only a Notebook (HP Pavillion 6) and it is impossible to play games with more than 700 stars :(

PSS.: Thanks for the great work to matrix and to all moders. DW-Shadows-extended is the best game ever i think :)))

The longer I played the less and less automation I use. First custom ships and fleets, then Characters assignments, later Taxes and Espionage.

Now, pretty much the only automation I use is, Explorers, having a new colony auto build a Star Base - Trading Outpost, and recruit a trooper. Even then a portion of the Explorers I manually run.

There are serious issues, queuing for Constructors is my primary frustration, it might try stacking requests 10 deep on the nearest ship, rather than spreading them out over the fleet.

Hi

...and what is your favorit play style??? Means, with or without victory conditions???
I play DW since 9 mounth but NEVER with victory conditions. Ever in sand box mode.

Depends on my mood that day. Even using Victory conditions you can always continue if you wish.

I NEVER play the Shakturi storyline and events. Other than that I tend to use the victory condition more to monitor my relative progress than as an actual end of game condition.
As to game styles I prefer Empire games to Pirate games, with pre-warp or standard as the mood takes me.

Let's see;
- 2 sector colonization range enforced
- Difficulty, somewhat randomized based on map sizing. Bigger map, the harder the settings.(Believe me, smallest map, least stars, 10 other Empires on aggressive, maxxed Pirates on a pre-Warp start, well it can be won but is a lesson in frustrations. Having 4 pirates fighting over your homeworld before you get a base built is NOT fun, lol.)

Ardilus -> RE: In wich modus you play ??? (1/29/2014 5:19:41 PM)

Hi Hawkeye. I design everything and control everything except escorts, until well established. Then I'll automate some explorers and most constructors, leaving one or two for special assignment. With explorers I will first scan my immediate vicinity, then set to "explore sector ##" for each. I share Cyclops' frustration regarding constructor queuing.

My performance is best up to 1000 systems. For this I like an 8x8 galaxy, sometimes 10x10, occasional habitable planets and independents, colonize range 2.00 sectors, 65% influence range, and 12 to 16 empires.

I play with victory conditions; you may continue playing after victory. I set to 80% threshold after 30 years with racial conditions.

I like the mods DW Extended, GEM 2.0 (with proper planet shadow overlay), ExplosionsV20Light, and my own sound effects mod: Ardilus Combat Audio Pack. I'd like to try some new weapons visual effects too.

Fenrisfil -> RE: In wich modus you play ??? (1/29/2014 5:42:15 PM)

Most of the time I control everything. As the empire grows I do move a few things over to the AI. Taxes is the first to go, and then construction and exploration ship control and possibly troop recruitment. The rest I keep control of myself including the movement of all my military ships (I run with 100% fleets as I've never found lone ships, especially smaller ones to be of any real use).

Research is a slight exception. I run on automation but override it by queueing up a load of projects. I only do that so I don't ever end up not researching anything as can happen if you have it under manual control.
