GBS -> How to land troops from the air? (1/31/2014 2:51:07 PM)

I'm in a scenario where I have 4 Plt of marines that I need to inject by air at a specific spot. I don't see a mission type for that. My flight left the Essex with the Marines on board. What do I do now?

You would do this by using the teleport function in the event editor.

Add the platoons somewhere on the map out of the zone and add the zone by dropping 4 reference points on where you would like them to appear.
Go into event editor and build a teleport action. Make sure to select your platoons and use the selected reference points you dropped.
Now drop 4 reference points on where you would like this action to trigger when the transporting aircraft flies though. Go into the event editor and add the area trigger. Make sure you specify a zone and the unit that triggers it.
Now build the teleport event adding both trigger and action.

Sorry to bump this post, but how would you land the troops if you aren't in mission editing mode and are simply playing the scenario?

I'm playing Raid on Kismayo and I'm struggling to get my Ospreys to land the Marines.

Apologies if this is a stupid question but I can't see an answer in the manual.

Cheers,

Jamie

You want to read the scenario briefing, which should tell you. Basically there will be a square (4 named or numbered reference points as Mike was saying above) and once you fly into this area, the event should trigger to "drop the troops".

So if the scenario designer didn't set it up with an obvious event box there is no way to manually drop troops off?

I've re-read the scenario and side briefings and there is no mention of triggers or events, nor are there any pre-plotted reference points.

The short answer to your question is "no". If the scenario designer did not set up the ability to drop troops off, then you cannot.
I am unclear why you would be told to drop them off, but not told where, however. Or are you just doing it on your own? If so, it is pretty easy for you to open the scenario in the editor, and set up yourself in the way Mike (mikmyk)described above.
I think that at some point this will be worked on, but that is an educated guess only.

The background to the scenario is that the meeting location is not yet known and the first half of the scenario has you tracking a convoy, hence no known insertion location.

I'll play through again to see if I've missed a flash message or done something out of order, but failing that I'll have a go at re-engineering the scenario.

Thanks,

Jamie

Edit: It seems I'd not got my recon units close enough to trigger an "add LZ's" event, lo and behold I now have 4 shiny new LZ's on the map....

[:)] Glad you got it! It really is a cool toy to play with, once you see how it works as a player, you can come up with some really devious plans as a scenario designer.
