CaptCarnage -> What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (2/2/2014 3:00:48 PM)

Hello all,

I would like to compile a list with the best scenarios out there - official or community-made.

So I would like you to post here, or send my by PM, your top-5 favourite scenarios. These are the scenarios that were a big challenge or had a good flow etc.

In P1 should be your favourite scenario.

I will then make an aggregate of all the lists I receive and post it here - so we can endlessly debate it ;) but at the same time it will be a great list for newcomers and for people discovering scenarios they haven't seen yet.

GBOATZ -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (2/2/2014 4:44:02 PM)

My Preferences (and mostly because I won these scenarios) are:

1. Caribbean Crisis
2. Red Storm Fill the Gap
3. Sideshow in the South China Sea
4. Israel Strikes
5. Battle of Chumonchin Chan (my first win!)

2. The Four Horsemen. (Still haven't won this one)
3. Operation Sling of David (Requires good planning)
4. Canary's Cage ( Not very difficult, but its just fun to play)
5. Red Storm: Fill the Gap (Love the GUIK scen. Just finished this one)

Maromak -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (2/2/2014 6:54:47 PM)

I made a #2 and 5 spot twice! Thanks you guys!

Look for Red Storm: Vampire Vampire! in about two weeks. Still laying it out.

PaulWRoberts -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (2/3/2014 3:25:05 PM)

I see some titles I don't recognize.

Do most scenarios make it into the Community Pack, or is there another source out there for CMANO scenarios?

GBOATZ -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (2/3/2014 7:19:42 PM)

Hi Paul,

Just check the Mods and Scenarios Thread. There are tons of scenarios (I now have over 100 including the orig community pack) and they are pretty easy to download. That way you can pick and choose from a wide variety of diverse situations, read through the side briefings and see if they are ones you would be interested in or challenged by (or not). Lots to choose from!

PaulWRoberts -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (2/3/2014 7:41:00 PM)

Thanks! I guess I was assuming that scenarios posted there would eventually make it into the community pack, so I wasn't checking past the first pages.

Tomcat84 -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (2/4/2014 10:07:05 AM)

1. Operation Brass Drum
2. The Big Stick
3. Fighter Weapons School - GAT 5 and 6
4. COMAO Training: Transport Day
5. Operation Lightning Strike

I'll be the first to admit that I have not played every scenario out there, been a bit busy as of late. But these ones I definately enjoyed. I prefer air power centric scenarios :)

And as a bit of advertising I want to give mention to my own two scenarios :p
- Frisian Flag (I'm very happy how this one turned out. It's also in the community pack)

- Facing the Dragon (not in the pack for now, I want to tweak this a bit but it requires some future CMANO functionality. Still very playable though and enjoyable according to some people :)

Maromak thanks for the recognition! I appreciate it [8D] And I encourage everyone who hasnt to try my scenarios of course, especially Frisian Flag [:D]. Thanks! [:)]

CaptCarnage -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (2/4/2014 12:01:20 PM)

Mine is:

1. Operation Brass Drum
2. Frisian Flag
3. Canary's Cage (first one I did)
4. Operation Soberania (a nice and satisfying planning mission)
5. Four Horsemen

Rodwen67 -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (2/4/2014 6:10:46 PM)

For me :

1. Brass Drum
2. Canary's Cage
3. The Big Stick
4. Fill the Gap
5. Carribean's crisis - The showdown

LargeDiameterBomb -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/22/2021 11:35:06 AM)

I haven't been playing CMO for a while and I thought I'd bump this thread to hopefully get other people replying with some suggestions of more modern scenarios (Hopefully making good use of LUA and other functionality added in the last 18 months or so for CMO.

My list is the scenarios I keep coming back to play over and over again - but I would really like to see what other players favourite scenarios are today as a a suggestion of what I ought to try next.

1. Biddle's Team
2. Baltic Storm
3. Corvette Group off Bressay
4. Northern Fury 5 - Bardufoss Blues
5. Canary's Cage

goldfinger35 -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/22/2021 2:49:11 PM)

1. Goodnight Irene
2. Under African Skies
3. Canarys Cage
4. Live: Spratly spat
5. Greek-Turkish EEZ Conflict, 2021

BeirutDude -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/22/2021 3:51:21 PM)

1. French Forces in the Gulf of Sidra, 1981
2. The Lost Province, 2017
3. Plum Blossoms Do Not Fall Lightly, 2025
4. Four Ships near Demon Point, 1988
5. Opening Moves 07 Aug 1975 (Northern Inferno)

Swant -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/22/2021 6:18:41 PM)

1. The Libyan War, 1986
2. Aegean in Flames
3. Northern Fury 1: H Hour
4. Curacao Crisis UK and French Intervention, 2021
5. Canary's Cage 2005

cscrutinizer -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/22/2021 11:02:56 PM)

1. Under African Skies
2. Havana Daydreamin
3. Goodnight Irene
4. Frisian Flag
5. Canary's Cage

The first three probably could use some love, but Feltan put together some of the most immersive scenarios ever outside of DLCs. I just wish UAS had continued.

True, Feltan's scenarios are excellent. They have it all: great story, detailed briefing, right challenge...
Unfortunately he only made 3 scenarios.

Yeah, I always wondered what happened to him. His scenarios still stand up.

LargeDiameterBomb -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/24/2021 5:38:03 PM)

Now I definitely have some good suggestions to check out. Interesting that one of the scenarios most commonly mentioned here is Canary's Cage. That scenario has really stood the test of time according to the communtiy.

Under African skies would definitely be on my top ten list and if Havana Daydreamin and Goodnight Irene were made by the same author I definitely have to check them out first.

When CMO was released all existing scenarios were re-released on Steam Workshop with Baloogan (If I remember correctly) listed as the author on the Steam Workshop page which has made it much harder to find new pre-CMO scenarios from the authors one really liked.
Miguel Molinas (I know he's here so I hope I got his name right) was probably my favourite author with his typically small but in my opinion often very enjoyable scenarios that one could play in a sitting or two.

Cheers guys and thanks again!

gregb41352 -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/25/2021 3:23:39 AM)

1. Seven Days in October 1962 A classic account of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Best. Scenario. Ever.
2. Under African Skies
3. Canary's Cage
4. Israel Strikes
5. The Big Stick

Thanks to all the scenario designers for putting out such fantastic stuff.

Excel file in the standalone version of the Community Scenario Pack lists all the scenario authors. In the next version (coming later this week) it will be included in the Steam version as well.

Twistedpretzel -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/25/2021 10:11:33 PM)

1. Beyond Kashmir
2. Escalation (Although I really, really hate DF21's now.)
3. Fiery Cross Reef
4. Hannukah War
5. Operation Broken Shield 300

Also, the "2022" series is fun. I don't think that has made it into the community scenario pack, but is easy to find on the workshop if you use steam

DeHav -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/25/2021 11:00:52 PM)

1) Goodnight, Irene
2) Curacao Crisis US-UK Intervention
3) Operation Brass Drum
4) Havana Daydreamin'
5) Nicaragua Missile Crisis

If you asked me tomorrow I'd probably give you a totally different answer as there are so many fantastic ones out there. It feels criminal that I haven't included any of Gunner98's Fury scenarios.

I always like something with a strong story and a long 'setup' period before hostilities begin. I also enjoy some of the more unconventional ones, like 'Two Cutters in the Gulf of Mexico' or the first Desert Storm scenario, just to make a change from the usual formula.

I very nearly put Frozen Seas 2022 into my list. I love how the Tonkas and Harriers are almost as useful as your 5th gen fighters.

BobTank63 -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/25/2021 11:05:37 PM)

1. North Pacific Shootout (reminds me of Top Gun)
2. Canary's Cage (Currently playing this one, it's a nice test of one's abilities in CMO in general)
3. The Four Horsemen, 1985 (Great challenge. If you beat it, you've mastered subs in this game. Also, I love Oscars).
4. Standing Naval Force Atlantic, 1979 (Good Cold War scenario, features ASW, ASuW, and AAW objectives and less-capable assets).
5. Operation Lightning Strike (a good lesson that the scalpel is sometimes better than the hammer).

Honorable Mentions go to Four Ships at Demon Point and TOPGUN GAT 5 & 6.

stww2 -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/25/2021 11:46:25 PM)

In no particular order, and without mentioning any of the excellent scenarios that have already been named:

1) Wargasm (Learn to stop worrying and love the Hound Dog as you take charge of a 1962 SAC B-52 wing charged with delivering nuclear war to the USSR. The scenarios is amazing, but the briefing for this one alone merits its mention)

2) Northern Fury 9: Hold the Line (A CVBG centered around the Enterprise desperately holds the line against two Soviet SAGs (well technically they have carriers, but do Soviet carriers really count?), plus Iceland-based aviation and Backfires from Kola in this epic "End of the Beginning" moment from Gunner's Northern Fury)

3) The V Bombers (the UK companion to Wargasm. You will most certainly miss not having the Hound Dog)

4) El Dorado Canyon (either the 1986 or 1996 versions) (USAF/USN strikes against Libya. The sheer level of detail alone Kushan put into this one merits its mention. I'm not sure there is a more detailed scenario from a historical accuracy standpoint)

5) Northern Inferno 10: An Eye for an Eye (like quite a few NI scenarios, this one comes across as rather contrived, but trying to carry out the unenviable task of striking Kola airfields with a single UK carrier is a thrilling, if daunting, challenge. A scenario that is most certainly not for anyone who is squeamish about strike aircraft losses, however)

Honorable mentions are "Blue Dawn" and "Nightmares" from Chains of War

BobTank63 -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/26/2021 3:21:12 AM)

I'm gonna add another honorable mention: To Kill A Mockingbird. The scenario represents the attempts of the PVO to shoot down the SR-71 Blackbird. Not only does one have to combat the Blackbird's legendary speed, flight ceiling, and jamming capabilities, but also the Soviet bureaucracy as the player can't shoot until they get permission from Moscow. It turns out different every time.

maverick3320 -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/26/2021 7:48:59 PM)

Almost any of the "Northern/Baltic/Med/Pacific/etc Fury" scenarios, in no particular order.

That's a good catch BobTank. On reflection, I'm adding that to my top 5.

kevinkins -> RE: What is the best scenario? Your Top-5 please (10/27/2021 1:10:24 AM)

Perhaps a bit off the subject, but some the best are the ones you make on your own. You learn a lot. Then leave it alone and play it a couple of months later. Players will be surprised how fresh and new your own scenario plays out.
