Hi All

If you bomb the industries in france, Holland etc does it effect the axis war effort and give you the necessary points/score to carry on the game till you have a real go bombing Germany direct?

I would strictly go after engine, airframe and avionic targets, plus the nearest rail centre to each. That will have some effect and score you points. There is nothing else of any great value produced in those countries to be of any use. I think maybe one of the large rubber factories might be there, but I am not completely sure. Do not waste BC on any of those countries, no terror points for razing Paris [:-]

Yes, destroying factories outside Germany does do damage, except for terror bombing points. In the first part of the 1943 Campaign, the Allies are desperately short of long range escort aircraft. Bombing past the Ruhr can result in massive bomber losses. Attacking closer targets in France, Belgium, and the Ruhr will not only give you victory points, it will start the long process of attribution against the Axis pilots. It also gives your pilots more experience. There are quite a few worthy targets in Western Europe as well (French aircraft factor and Belgium armaments industry). When February 1944 roles around, most of the Allied air forces have to bomb these same targets (railheads and ports) anyway, so why not get a head start?

It makes a huge difference if you are playing the AI or a human. If the former then it doesn't really matter what you bomb or when. It is impossible to loose. If you are playing a competent human then you need a coherent strategy.

Against the AI:

The AI is not aware of the bugs that make non producing industry useless targets so it will defend all targets regardless. You should plan raids to maximize your damage to the Luftwaffe not to industry. Do recon and bomb targets well within escort range (especially p-47 range) that has little or no AA. You aren't interested in the industry you damage but the fighters you shoot down. Night raids have the same purpose. Get as many night fighters flying as you can with as few casualties as you can then use intruders over their fields. Score is totally unimportant until you are ready to go for a win.

Against a competent human:

The fuel system is broken. Damage gives points but 100% destroyed fuel targets still get full production.

Bombing rail does not keep supplies from getting to the troops but does keep production from moving which can severely hamper nearby factories and will give gobs of industry damage points to keep your score up. Because of the supply route bug the ground support campaigns are probably unwinable even against the AI.

Warshipbuilder is correct in going after the aircraft industries. I also add the armaments that actually produce something. There is no reason to attack any of the critical industries until you can get them to zero or very close and keep them at zero for 100 days.

Against a competent human waiting for lots of long range escorts to hit the avionics industry will be gloriously fatal. You will be facing advanced fighters by March 44 at the latest. By D-Day you will not be able to shoot down a German plane. Yes hitting early is costly but it can be done.

Yes as major rubber factory (Cap 40) and major armaments and aviation factories. BUT when D-Day comes a lot of the damage you will do will disappear.

Suggest the following:

Bomber command focus on German targets
8th and 15th use against non-German targets until get long range escorts in numbers (Remember you will suffer losses so make sure you have adequate replacements for long range fighters before committing them in numbers)
2nd Tactical use when can against targets close enough (Hint start to change Typhoons to Mossie FB when have the numbers as otherwise they will become be "upgraded" to Tempest which is much less effective as is not treated as fighter bomber in the game.
