Hawkeye_BF -> Looking for unknown Pirate Base... (2/8/2014 5:16:08 AM)

Hi,

in my current game I have a big problem with a little pirate fraction.
They always raid me and destroy ships and bases.
I would like to destroy them but the location of pirate base is unknown.
(The complete galaxy is discovert)

Is there a special way to locate them??? Or is the only way to search in every system for them???

(DW - Shadows 1.9.0.13; Extended Mod; Difficulty: "very hard")

Many thanks in advance

Send an intelligence agent over to steal their territory map.

great idea :) The only problem is that all my agents are in use for empires I'am in war with.
My way would be a little difficulty. I would give a ship a long range scanner and then flying arround with to looking for the pirates. LOL i never had the idea to send an agent!! ^^

Thank you :)

hmmmm...
my agent have stolen the territory map of the pirates but their base is already unknown :(
Now I try to steel the galaxy map. Hope it works!

--> Have stolen the galaxy map and the pirate base is already unknown [:@]

By the way its a legendary pirate fraction! Is this different to other (normal) pirate fractions???

Since pirates don*t got a territory, it doesn't help to steal their territory map.
You need to steal their operation map.

There is a little chance to discover a base of the pirate clan when you capture or destroy their ships too.

You mean explored, so your explorer don't got a job anymore. But they could build a base at allready explored systems.
This is where comes Monitor stations in game.
Design a Monitor station, with minimal moduls so cheap as possible. No weapons, no shields, just Longrange scanner or better ultralongerang and enough energy collectors to cover the static use.
I place now these Monitor station at the cross of the galaxy grid, at a 10x10 map with ultralongrang scanner you got a good detection. At this way you see pretty fast when a new pirate base appear at your area.

Oh thanks a lot for your help :)
I will design a monitor station und try to steal the operation map and then hope I can find them.

Bingeling -> RE: Looking for unknown Pirate Base... (2/8/2014 8:11:06 AM)

If you see them cross a long range scanner, you can narrow down where they are heading quite nicely (they won't take detours).

If you put a long range scanner on an explorer, it is free to go where it wants to.

Ardilus -> RE: Looking for unknown Pirate Base... (2/8/2014 6:12:15 PM)

Hey Hawk. I will also use Bingeling's tactic of LRS on explorers for mobile tracking. Very effective. Set up a net of LRS explorers around your territory. When one spots a fleet of pirate ships leaving the area, it can be set to the chase. It can then be posted in deep space to monitor activity at the pirate base while you assemble a strike force. The only real shortcoming of using explorers over monitoring stations is that freighters will not bring you fuel, but this is easily compensated.

Recommend you send a spy to steal a territory map from these folks.
If successful, you will know where his base is, then your favorite flavor of task force can go in and explain your displeasure to them.

Tcby -> RE: Looking for unknown Pirate Base... (2/8/2014 8:01:52 PM)

I *always* steal pirate territory maps at the start of shadows games, and it always reveals their bases [:)]. I know that the in game description doesn't indicate that Canute, which is why I spent a lot of time with the slightly riskier operations map mission. In this instance, when the systems are already known, it makes sense that they don't show up.

DeadlyShoe -> RE: Looking for unknown Pirate Base... (2/8/2014 9:27:30 PM)

You can also click on random systems in the area until you see a base in the summary O_O

Include all the Gas Clouds '+' in your search as the Pirates often have bases or mines there.

Spidey -> RE: Looking for unknown Pirate Base... (2/9/2014 2:22:35 AM)

Put long range scanners on your exploration ships and do a sector by sector sweep. That way you also have a mission for them once the normal exploring is done. They'll be your new mobile monitoring stations.
