in reality the U2s sent the Germans nuts. They could fly below the stall speed for most German fighters making them very hard to hit in air combat as a fighter overflew them too fast to get in a clear shot. Add in, the Soviets liked to use them at night, shut off the engines and glide over their target (often a rear area depot or HQ unit) lob out some hand grenades and then start the engine and fly off. The flaw in that plan was the engine didn't always restart. They also scarcely needed much more than a bit of clear land to use as an airstrip.
