Elouda -> Revised Scenario - Operation Firestorm, 1978 (Version 1.2) (2/13/2014 2:28:06 PM)

Description
This is a scenario depicting part of a what-if Second Korean War in the late 1970s.

The player commands US forces consisting of a carrier group around USS Kitty Hawk, and a surface group around USS Wisconsin, along with some additional land based aviation assets. The task is to conduct strikes against a range of North Korean targets along the east and north coasts of the peninsula from the Sea of Japan. Opposition includes a range of AA/SAM systems, a numerically superior enemy air force, and surface and submarine forces.

Note
This is the revised successor to the Firestorm Scenario I posted a few months ago.

The ORBATs for both sides have been redone to be more accurate, along with the AI logic and events/scoring system. The area of operations has expanded somewhat, and opposing assets have been made more resilient (in the original disabling the single hostile airbase was essentially all that was needed for total air control - not so anymore!). In return, the Kitty Hawk has a full complement of aircraft, and the allied air forces are generally more impressive, though not all assets are available at the start.

Theres also a couple of surprises waiting...

Operation Firestorm, 1978 (Version 1.1 for B490)

Changelog
Version 1.2
As Baloogan pointed out that the Wisconsin included in the scenario is actually one of the proposed Iowa modifications with a flight deck, she has received a small airgroup of AV-8A, AH-1T and SH-3D. Otherwise this version is identical to the previous one, which I have left up for those who dont want the extra aircraft. If people want, I will revert this change, just thought it would be interesting to try.

Version 1.1
Set a lot of NK ground units to 'hold position' to prevent them running out of position and into the sea.
Added slightly more NK AA/SAM defences.
Modified NK AI behaviour, should be less suicidal.

great, just discovered the original last night and loved it. We need more North Korea scenarios

I am considering doing another one as part of this series, maybe from the other side, or maybe one with primarily South Korean forces with some limited US support. Both would probably be a lot harder than Firestorm.

FANTASTIC scenario....set in 1978...before the tomahawk and aegis...you actually have to plan airstrikes. Very good work. Already one of my faves!

..still newbee at playing Command, but want to tackle this SCN now.

Need some tips to setup my forces, attack plan, etc.
What typically is the thought process to getting started. I.e 1. setup CAP, 2. recon, 3. missions, etc.

any feedback is good.

cheers

first thing youd want to do is set up your AAW missions...then set up your tanker and AEW missions...then set up ASW missions, thats how i started the scen.

Elouda -> RE: Revised Scenario - Operation Firestorm, 1978 (2/15/2014 12:51:51 PM)

Yeah, first priority should be CAP for both the naval and land bases, AEW above the carrier and ASW for both naval groups.

After that you can start planning strikes - running a recon flight with the surface search radars on might give you a little more detail about possible targets of opportunity, as will passes over the target areas at low altitude (risky). Then its time to plan your moves and execute them - typically you will want to strike with a range of aircraft, including ECM, escorts, SEAD and of course the strike aircraft themselves. Some targets might be easier to after with the A-10s and AH-1s once theyre available, as long as you can keep the air clear. The F-111s are probably best saved for really critical targets, as you will only get 2 (maybe 3) runs with them due to the reload time.

Thanks for the great feedback guys. I will be uploading a new version tomorrow with some AI improvements and slight upgrades to the North Korean AA/SAM networks.

Only part way through, but this looks a very nice scenario, certainly quite a battle on this one.

I recorded myself playing this scenario in lieu of a show this week.

Download scenario, place in scenario folder, open Command, start new game, navigate to whatever sub-folder you placed the scenario in (if any) click on Operation Firestorm 1978. Click on 'load selected'.

Howdy

Now i feel like an idiot, the only reason it was giving me trouble in the first place was because i was trying to open it rather than extract it [:(] But thanks for being helpful anyways

SuaveWatermelon -> RE: Revised Scenario - Operation Firestorm, 1978 (2/17/2014 9:18:23 PM)
