There have been a couple issues I have noticed in the past and have just lived with until now. -Bases default to 'Point Blank' combat range, when opening fire at longest range would make more sense for a stationary object. (yes I reset the range selection to All Weapons or Standoff, not that it seems to make much difference) -Bases are incredibly passive. Unless an attacker targets them, or fires upon them they seem happy to sit there. Watched two 'Defense' bases next to each other, one base came under attack, the other just sat there and didn't assist until it too came under fire. -Monster attacks a base and guns won't fire, fighters won't launch until it literally gets inside gun range. -Many of these issues I solve by mounting one or more Fighter Bays and pre-launch the Fighters. THEY attack at range, THEY actually defend. Then the Fighters attacking wakes the base(s) into ranged action.
