That's unlikely, for now. NATO has no particular interests in military intervention and Russia has little to gain by fighting NATO. The Poles might be sweating a bit, though.

Two additional Ropucha II class vessels ("Minsk" and "Kaliningrad") from Baltic Fleet entered Sevastopol port. (#135 in DB3000).

It's the exact same plan they executed against Georgia. To the letter. We shall see how long the war takes and how big it gets.

Its also pretty much the same play as:

Afghanistan 79
Czechoslovakia 68
Hungary 56

I suspect the aim is to destabilize and insert a puppet regime in a new state of Crimea; all in the 'interest of peace and security'. Damage control since the failure to do so in the Ukraine proper, although they will still try and put Yanukovich back on the throne in Kiev. Added security for the Sevastopol bases is a bonus.

There is not much the West can do; has the will to do; or debatably should do. As in all of the previous interventions, quick action has 'stolen a march' from the west and provided a near fait acompli.

I think this would be a fun scenario or set of scenarios. The good thing about Command is that only the electrons become casualties.

My hopes are that things simmer down quickly.

We have two games up on Baloogan's Joint Command right now, feel free to pop in the Jabbr (https://jabbr.net/#/rooms/baloogan) if you want to play this scenario. I'm playing the Russian side, Baloogan the Ukranians.

Thanks for posting this.

You can see Dandin's huge conga line of A/C in his image there. I have a feeling those A/C are going to put the hurt on Ukraine...

JSF -> RE: Ukraine 2014 (3/2/2014 10:14:50 AM)

There are stylized Icons used in this Scenario - how to get them and how/where to install them?

mikkey -> RE: Ukraine 2014 (3/2/2014 11:27:08 AM)

JSF, Baloogan uses Stalintc’s Stylised Icon Pack

thx for the info.

Have you ever heard about Battlefronts excellent Combat Mission Shock Force? They made their strategy game about a fictional war in Syria, thinking the most likely next target of US and allies would be Syria.

When the civil war in Syria started off i thought "Man, they go to great lengths to sell their game!"

They announced their next CMSF will be around conventional war between NATO and Russia in the Ukraine....

VIF2NE -> RE: Ukraine 2014 (3/2/2014 2:08:37 PM)

Guys, I hope will be no war. [&o]
But Ukraine is a huge economic failure. In Russia or Europe do not have money to cover their debts.
This problem N1. Problem N2 - a political division of the country. Ulta-right (real Nazis, really), the Liberals (guided by the EU), conservatives (small nationalists) have the same power. They almost never are able to contract. Therefore, there is no "democracy" in the understanding of the West.

I think no one knows what to do with Ukraine. Only by media propaganda from all sides.

Everything will be determined in Ukraine give money or not. The western part is no longer have the money, do not pay taxes for 4 months. If you stop the eastern part of Ukraine (home industry), will be big trouble. Already moving quickly immigrants in Russia and Europe.

Military preparations - a dirty political game of all countries. So many Russian relatives in Ukraine. A lot of Ukrainians in Russia.

NakedWeasel -> RE: Ukraine 2014 (3/2/2014 4:07:48 PM)

Finances and inability to pay taxes does not exclude people from desiring freedom from Russia. The majority of Ukrainians want to be free of Moscow's influence. They want to join the EU, and potentially, NATO.
What's more, they have ratified agreements with the United States since 1994, guaranteeing their sovereignty. They are already in the process of being formally admitted as a member nation of the NATO alliance.
We can't simply ignore Ukraine's situation, because it's inconvenient for us to intervene right now.

VIF2NE -> RE: Ukraine 2014 (3/2/2014 4:54:44 PM)

I do not want to engage in political discussions . History of political relations in Ukraine is extremely difficult . Ukrainians themselves can not understand it .

Most Ukrainians want to eat . Ukraine is now in power, who will give money.
EU until (hopefully will ) , giving money does not want to . Ukrainians want in the EU for economic reasons. They need immediate visa-free entry to work in the EU. Existing contracts that have not. This error N1.

If the U.S. wants to influence Ukraine , enough to give 100B dollars in the current fiscal year .

Now all countries cynically stand around Ukraine. If they do not give money , the economy will collapse. There will be conflicts and unrest . Then all nations will simply shift the responsibility to the other. So it is impossible to build a democratic and civil society. Poverty produces extremism.

Forget about the cold war. Now more important than economic reasons . Russia returned to the stores Georgian wine and mineral water.In Georgia massively Russian tourists come to rest . Why ? Politicians do not need ideas without money.

beserko -> RE: Ukraine 2014 (3/2/2014 5:16:13 PM)

Found and interesting site that has American and Russian units that could be involved. The site has a silly name but spot on in Military developments

https://medium.com/war-is-boring/86604672f2a6 US Forces

https://medium.com/war-is-boring/af7a59ff4ad8 What Russia has there so far

Lets hope that people come to their senses. Ukrainian's just want to be free. Russia may look like a democracy but its turning into a penal colony ruled by the 1%

severe7 -> RE: Ukraine 2014 (3/2/2014 6:13:17 PM)

Lets hope the involved countries act more rational than countries did 100 years ago. The only good war is a simulated one.

NakedWeasel -> RE: Ukraine 2014 (3/2/2014 6:18:01 PM)

I certainly have no wish to discuss it beyond the scope of possible scenarios. I appreciate your input.

Remaining Ukrainian forces in Crimea.

There goes the Ukrainian Navy. In my simulations there isn't much they could do vs the BSF. Their Foxtrot is the only wildcard.

mikmykWS -> RE: Ukraine 2014 (3/2/2014 11:02:02 PM)

Took a look in Combat Fleets tonight and Foxtrot has had some upgrades but not all that capable.

Mike

NakedWeasel "Hey, I'm just tired of hearing Russians fan boiz talk smack all the time about how awesome their tech is, and they are going to blow every F-22, F-35, and B-2 out of the sky without taking their eyes off their vodka shot glass. I want to see just how RUSSIA STRONG!!!111!11 this gear really is."[&o]
You play command and the Russian equipment seems like the best thing since slice bread, but in Iraq, the Air wars with Israel, and Serbia Russian equipment didn't do that well.

guanotwozero -> RE: Ukraine 2014 (3/3/2014 12:07:29 PM)

If part of an international economic response was to blockade Russian shipping through the Dardanelles and the Baltic (Denmark/Sweden), what sort of forces would be required to enact that? Or break it?

Unfair and simplistic.

Educate yourself before making such broad statements: http://www.ausairpower.net/APA-SAM-Effectiveness.html
