STUCKER868 -> First impressions after patch (2/27/2014 9:33:31 PM)

Although it's nice to finally see something happening with a patch I feel play balance is worse off for one thing.
After several tries starting as the Central Powers I am getting steam rolled by the Serbians and the Russians every time.
In the West, I can get into Belgium quite easily but get stopped and then chewed up by the end of 1914.

Why does ONE artillery barrage use up half the national ammo supply? (with usually very minimal results.)
Does anyone else feel the Royal navy is OP vis-à-vis the German Imperial Navy? For example the Brits should have only about twice as many capital ships as the Germans... (In reality the German ships were generally of better quality as was the BB ammo)
Anyway the game is fun despite all of this but gets boring fast. Maybe by next year, a patch will come out to fix some of these issues. Hopefully at
least by the 100th anniversary of Jutland....(which can never be fought by any sane German player in this game.)

I'm at a loss to hear, that you still feel that the Central Powers especially Germany is weak,Germany has never had it so good, she has more PPs now than ever before, she has more man power than ever before,Germany has 2 more Infantry units on the Western front from the start off the game, she also has a Zeppelin that Germany can use to damage French,British & Russian PPs,Germany also has an extra Artillery unit on the Eastern front. You also say that Britain should have twice the size of navy, well Britain has 3 Battleships to Germany's 2,Britain has 7 Cruisers to Germany's 5,and Britain has 1 Submarine to Germany's 3,so if anyone is under strength its Britain.[&:]

STUCKER, Keep an eye on the posts, I have had success where you have not, however, it "was not easy". In this patch the French have RR, where 1.30 did not, making it real difficult for CP to push through Belgium. To me, the balance of the game, is to make it more difficult than easier, mind you, the game development is still in progress, and Kirk pays attention to people, (like yourself), has to say. When I first played, I had to play handicap, till getting a feel (strategy) on how win, but the game keeps changing, so left with having to keep altering strategy. As soon as I learn how to do SS, then I might be able to help you out with the game. Good Luck, in the meantime..

Well, I was not aware of the naval balance in the game... however it would be a DREAM if I could afford to purchase an extra air unit or even arty unit, or replace lost Cav units... in the game as the Central Powers. I am a veteran wargamer with over 40 years experience and although I'm not a champion I do know how to wargame and despite all of that I am unable to get by a turn a few turns after Russia gets involved without having to just do repair work with what few points I do have to spend. Who can afford to buy extra ammo manufacturing let alone a naval unit!

If your CP (1914), don't even think about buying artillery, till much-much later in the game (if ever). As you have found out, cavalry is somewhat vulnerable, but useful early on and later upon breakthroughs. In MP, some players use cavalry extensively, in the East, if you get bogged down, they are not the best front line units to have, and if faced against 2 or more infantry, they'll get turned into dust. In spite of the advertised ability to fight a 2 front war, it's really a 1 front major attack, the other static, with the exception of early on, to knock out Serbia, well before Italy enters. If you knock out Serbia, Italy and France, it's highly unlikely Romania will enter (that depends on who uses "poison gas first"). Right now I am (CP) at Oct 1916, won't start another scenario till this is finished.

There are a # of strategies to go by, and as you know (strategy), it comes from experience. Didn't answer all your questions for now, it's late. If you have more thoughts post them....

One more thought: read the old AARs (even though 1.4.2 is a whole new ball game).

I have read these comments, and have acted on your concerns,I hope to include my newest tweaks in any hot fix released for the game.[;)]

I've lost belgrade in the first few turns, in two different (multiplayer) games. I'm such a bad general.

It appears that I'm an insane German player in this game, because I fought a naval battle against Britain, but wait I won, that can't be right![:D]

Early naval battle turn 5, Germany take on Britain in open water, well away from any green dot areas, watch what happens next?

kirk23 -> RE: First impressions after patch (3/6/2014 10:17:14 PM)

4 German fleets attack the British Battleship fleet,Germany take damage to the 2 cruiser fleets, but the 2 battleship fleets remain undamaged, while the British Battleship fleet does take damage to its strength and Efficiency, look what happens next?

Answer Britain withdraws, end result Germany wins the first major naval battle of the war by turn 6,the Kaiser will be pleased![:D]

NAVAL TIP :If you are going to fight naval battles, please stay away from green dot areas or port hexes, otherwise the area bonuses on most occasions will defeat you.[;)]

I just captured Belgrado in a MP game but it took a while. Would I found out was that it is possible to take a infantry unit down to 2-1 strenght by combined air-arty attack + 3 infantry units attack. However, my opponent always had a reserve unit in the second line which replaced the nearly destroyed unit. You will never hold belgrado if your opponent really focusses on it. But holding it for about 10 turns longer makes it very interesting for when the Italians join the war.

STUCKER868 -> RE: First impressions after patch (3/7/2014 9:07:10 PM)

What's your point Kirk? To me, you only demonstrated that the A.I. failed here instead of trying to prove me wrong.
Against a smarter A.I. or a decent human player, the Kaiser would not be pleased. :)

I would approach Germany with the whole British fleet (instead of the A.I's silly choice of coming in with the
fewer units it did in your game)and force you to either come out to fight or face a blockade. (The British advantage is numbers and in your game,
the A.I. was not taking advantage of it. In fact, I would have stayed and gladly trades shots with your ships as the British can afford
to trade and the High Seas Fleet can't....instead of taking hits and then running away like a scared little girl like the A.I. did.
If you do come out and fight you will and exchange ship for ship you will come away with no ships that you probably can't ever afford
replace .... and I will still have a sizeable fleet.

At the real battle of Jutland as I am sure you know, the full weight of the Grand Fleet was present.
...and because of luck and fate the Germans did not engage it.

This game is practically unplayable after the recent patch because of the slowdown issue as you know and needs a HOTFIX.

STUCKER868 -> RE: First impressions after patch (3/7/2014 9:14:28 PM)

The game is broken with the slow A.I. at least on my rig (which is a high end gaming system). ETA on a hotfix?
