terje439 -> New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/3/2014 8:49:20 AM)

https://www.komplett.no/asus-m11ad/803939

I am considering this one. I know it is not top of the line, but there are a few things that has to be taken into account;
A. Being partly laid pff at work means the economy is not the best.
B. Having no PC is a pita :p
C. Apart from fames bought here, I tend to only play World of Tanks and Civilization.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Terje

Terminus -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/3/2014 11:33:39 AM)

That's perfectly adequate for the games you mention.

Rising-Sun -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/3/2014 12:06:36 PM)

Guess it okay, not sure how much it cost compare to USD. Upgrade mine for around 800USD, its almost twice better than you posted. Btw i got my hardwares from Newegg.com.

british exil -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/3/2014 2:00:45 PM)

As Terminus mentioned it is adequate for your gaming needs.
WOT can be played in various setups low to high quality. You should have enough memory and graphic card to be able to play on high quality.

Your point A is understandable and point B even more so. No work = more time, no pc = more time being fed up not being able to play.
Just one point concerning WOT, have fun on the battlefield and I hope our tanks don't cross each other.

Mat

Thanks for the feedback. The price is aprox 900 in Usd, so double the fun for double price seems fair :p

If you see this nick in wot, that is me Mat

I'm looking for a desktop PC at the moment and my techie kids have shown me some custom PC building sites where you can choose individual components and it was still cheaper and more powerful than those bought in retail stores... Obviously the sites are UK based but I'm sure there must be some available in your country.

terje439 -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/3/2014 5:18:53 PM)

Komplett falls into that category, but they also have some prebuilt ones that are cheaper still as those parts are not topnotch, and are also bougjt in bulk by the company.
Ofc, they also carry state of the art stuff. A few years back I designed hhe "wet dream"-PC there by chosing the best of the best all along. Everything looked nice untill I realized the price. 20k usd is somewhat more than I had to spend at the time :p

Qwixt -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/3/2014 10:11:22 PM)

What I recommend is that you google the processor and GPU benchmark, then you get an idea for how fast it is relative to what you have had in the past.

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-4440S+@+2.80GHz&id=2119
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+640

That will give you relative idea of how fast it will perform if you look for what you currently have or had. Those benchmarks don't mean that you will the exact difference in performance. But you can use those charts to get a general idea where the machine will perform. Then you can tack on extras depending on your need.

I would not recommend it because of the video card. For $30 more, you can get a lot better video card.

Gilmer -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/3/2014 11:28:09 PM)

Terje, I have a lesser graphic card than that and I play WoT, but I turned off all the dynamic shadows and stuff. Huge FPS hogs. You can play around with the settings. I decided I didn't need dynamic shadows to play it, because I am not looking at the shadows!!

Gilmer -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/3/2014 11:29:06 PM)

Your name in WOT is terje439? I will look for you. I don't play much on weekdays, but sometimes will play a decent amount on weekends.

terje439 -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/4/2014 9:34:57 AM)

Yes, I am named Terje439 in WoT and WarThunder as well.
In the end komplett gave me 8k usd credit, so I upgraded somewhat, but without going overboard. Ended with a 760 geforce card, which is supposed to be better despite halving half the ram. Gee these things were easier when the os was named Dos, ram peaked at 640kb, and graphics was cga, ega, vga or svga :p

Good for you on your new computer. I'll put you on as a contact when I'm on WoT. I've been busy with the Elder Scrolls online beta recently.

terje439 -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/4/2014 1:03:48 PM)

Do so, I see they are building my pc now, so hope I have it before the weekend.
Then it is back to grinding tanks ;)

Cant wait til ESO comes out, least i got my early access 5 days. Some says the game will suck, so idk. WoT look really interesting, i flew couple missions and manage to shoot down five players without a scratch lol, but that was for low levels.

Anyway hope ESO doesnt fall apart here, really enjoy playing ESeries and sometimes i like playing with other players.

Sounds like world of warplanes. I am in Beta and can at least talk about it. Seems decent. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I have Civilization IV installed on my Windows XP desktop, but when I tried to install it on my Windows 7 laptop I had so much trouble that I gave up.

Win7 doesnt alway work with most games, did you check compatible issues?

Qwixt -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/5/2014 5:37:18 PM)

I have run Civ IV on win 7.

A couple of tips when installing older games on win 7,

- Don't install to "\Program files". I usually install games to separate "\games" directory.
- Make sure to install as admin (right-click, run as admin)

Did you have more problems installing, or running it?

histgamer -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/6/2014 5:36:52 AM)

Good choice the GTX 760 is a very solid card.

terje439 -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/6/2014 9:29:41 AM)

I noticed that, it help for some programs. I got Neverwinter Nights 2 from gamersgate and mention it will not run or support 64 OS, least it worked on my pc. Maybe it has something to do with different install path and patches.

faraon -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/9/2014 3:37:57 PM)

SSD drive will help a lot.

terje439 -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/10/2014 7:49:19 AM)

So, got the PC on Friday, but so late that their support had closed. Set it up, realized that WoT did not run too well, tried to alter my graphics setting. No NVIDIA logo, just Intel.
They actually managed to forget to install my graphics card :(
PC sent back again...

Thank you for the offer, but since komplett messed up by forhetting the graphics card they decided to give me a good deal, so I did not have to pay for the card and they upped my ram to 16gig :)

I stopped using NewEgg once they pulled the "pay to expedite" trick on me. I'm not using them again after that.

Ok, that's the issue. I guess not meant to be. I hear if you aren't in your home server, connection is bad.

e_barkmann -> RE: New PC, feedback appreciated. (3/14/2014 3:39:32 AM)

For those on a budget who want to boost their graphics capabilities consider the new nvidia 750ti card, doesn't require an upgraded power supply and is relatively cheap.
