dplummer -> Naval unit unable to return to base issue (3/3/2014 11:12:32 PM)

Not sure if this is known and I can't find or new.

USSR sub in Japanese coast can't return to Vlad as Japan has taken. But because of weather all Soviet reports in range are iced in.
Can't return to base but can't seem to figure out how to destroy the sub. Is there such a thing or is this an error?

Thanks.

Hello,

i have a similar situation once (french ship unable to return to base).

I have to "hover" a french port with unit in hand and press delete if i remember correctly (i'm at work so i can't check that now [;)]), try to make the same with a russian prot.

Thanks but no cigar. Tried delete and every *+delete combination and nothing happened.

Get the context message "the unit must move to a port in range where they can stack (esc cancels move)"

That message is correct just need to figure out the magic delete combination if that's what I should do.

I downloaded the file and checked it out. It has a legal return to base move. Crazy as it sounds, it can land in Hong Kong.

Thank you sir. That I would never have tried (obviously).

Press F11 for an undocumented feature, it will list possible ports. (if I remember correctly)

There's also a menu option to show all valid moves. That's how I found Hong Kong - it wouldn't have occurred to me to try to rebase there either.

Here's where you can find the menu option

And here's the information it returns. It occurs to me as I write this that it would be a nice feature if you could select a port from this list (which is typically longer) and have the ships automatically go there. As it is, it just provides you a list of destinations and then you have to manually move the ships. Low priority, obviously, but it would be a nice addition.

Centuur -> RE: Naval unit unable to return to base issue (3/4/2014 6:18:29 PM)

This is correct, if the USSR is at war with Germany...

Dabrion -> RE: Naval unit unable to return to base issue (3/4/2014 6:57:25 PM)

Units can rebase to iced-in port, yet not leave or reorg there? Now I am confused..

RU does not have to be at war with GE to be able to stack in Hong Kong, but both CW and RU have to be active (aka at war with a major power). Hong Kong also has to be vacant of CW units as non-coop major powers cannot stack together.

Finarfïn -> RE: Naval unit unable to return to base issue (3/4/2014 8:04:21 PM)

Doesn't RU need to have a HQ in CW to rebase in hong kong?

FTC would apply to the UK, Australia or any other CW home country. Hexes outside the major powers home country (like H.K. which is a CW controlled territory) only need consent and o/c you cannot violate stacking limits etc.. Ref.: RAW 18.3, 6th item of the "in particular, they can" enumeration.

Undocumented is the F11 key. It only shows the available ports and sea area destinations for naval moves. You might find it useful because it shows information about the cost to move to each location, including moves that avoid going through enemy controlled sea areas.

I used that form to debug the code for moving naval units and never made it user friendly. Which is why it doesn't appear in the documentation - but since viewing it can't hurt anything, ...
