Der Zeitgeist -> [FIXED B506] SEAD missions still not working? (1.03, Build 504 ) (3/6/2014 5:38:58 PM)

Hi everyone,

after a long time, I just tried getting back into CMANO, checking out the latest Build to see what has changed since I last tried out the game.

I tried a simple scenario to check if the aircraft mission AI has improved since October, set up a simple SEAD mission against a HAWK battery, and let it run, and..., well see the attached scenario file, my planes still refuse to attack.

Did I do anything wrong? EMCON, ROE, posture etc. seems to all be set up correctly.

Seems attack when changing that plane's ROE: Engage opportunity targets: Yes

Why it doesn't attack without that is beyond me, though.

Yeah this one still on the list. Sorry guys! Will get to it as soon as we can.

In the meantime it should fire if:

You change the Opportunity ROE.

Or

You can also use a strike mission or ASUW Patrol Land/Mixed as well.

Thanks!

Mike

Thanks for the info, Sardaukar & Mike!

I also noticed another problem, once I got the anti radar missiles to launch. The missiles themselves seem to home not on the radar emissions they pick up with their own seekers, but on the location of the target as it appears on your screen. That means, that when the target ambiguity zone on your screen shifts around, which is influenced by your passive ESM sensors (in that case, by the Su-24 and Tu-16) the missiles also change course towards the new estimated position, as if there was a datalink and not a passive radar sensor in their nose guiding them. In one case, the AS-12 missiles turned around 180° in midair to chase after the SAM site that had moved behind them!

If you can post a save.

Thanks!

Mike

I'll try, but the more extreme cases like I mentioned earlier are hard to reproduce, because they only happen when the ambiguity area shifts around a large distance and the missiles are in the air at the same time.

There is, however, one way to test it with my above scenario. When you let the Su-24 fire the missiles at the HAWK site, and then immediately delete the Su-24 and then drop the contact of the HAWK site, then the missiles will consistently miss their target, even though they should still "see" the radar emissions from the SAM site and home in on them.

Ok thanks. Will do.

I ran a few more tests. The problem is specific to certain types of anti radar missiles. I tried out the Russian Kh-58 and Kh-25, the HARM is not affected by this. You can see the problem more clearly when you activate the targeting vectors for all units, and then switch from normal view to god view once the missiles are in the air.

The missiles have targeting vectors pointing to the actual target location, where the radar emissions are coming from. But the missiles themselves don't fly towards that location, but to the location that is visible on your screen, dependent on any ambiguity zones and shifting around, depending on the accuracy of your ESM fix. In some cases, both positions match, then the missiles will hit normally. But mostly, the missiles will try to follow the ambiguity contact, ignoring their own targeting vectors, wasting energy doing so, and completely miss the target.

Scenario files are attached.

Missiles that are working so far: HARM, ALARM, maybe Shrike
Not working so far Kh-58, Kh-25, Standard ARM, Martel

I made a screenshot from the Martel strike, you can see the missile targeting vectors pointing towards the actual target location, while the missiles are homing on the ambiguity contact south of it. The first missile just impacted on the ambiguity contact.

One further observation: HARM and ALARM, which are both working ok, are setting an intermediate waypoint after launch, about halfway to the target. They fly to the waypoint, and only after passing it, start homing in on the radar. The targeting vector for these missiles only appears once they have passed that waypoint.

Let us know what you see in the final version of 1.03 (Build 504). This should be released soon.

Thanks!

Thanks, will do![sm=happy0065.gif]

Both problems are still present in Build 504:

-SEAD patrols not engaging targets unless "engage target of opportunity" is set

-Anti Radar Missiles homing towards ambiguity contacts, not actual radar emissions.

Sorry DZ didn't get to the first item yet. Still on our list.

Fixed in Build 506.
