I guess i would have taken over the business of my dad, whatever that is.

That is what most of us would have done. But it is nice to dream of swords and swashbuckling.

CGGrognard -> RE: What would your job have been in the 1500's to 20th century? (3/12/2014 8:40:18 PM)

Cabin boy or quartermaster here...that's considering I was born in a coastal city unlike real life, where my birth State didn't even exist until the 19th century.

Zorch -> RE: What would your job have been in the 1500's to 20th century? (3/12/2014 10:41:26 PM)

Court jester (and whipping boy)

Will_L_OLD -> RE: What would your job have been in the 1500's to 20th century? (3/12/2014 11:32:08 PM)

Realistically... probably a dog crap gatherer for a tanner [8|] or a hanger-on at court, pretty much the the same thing [:'(]

bairdlander2 -> RE: What would your job have been in the 1500's to 20th century? (3/13/2014 12:33:24 AM)

I would be the same as I am now,a carpenter/scaffolder

doomtrader -> RE: What would your job have been in the 1500's to 20th century? (3/13/2014 1:05:20 AM)

A Knight looking for a shrubbery,...

aaatoysandmore -> RE: What would your job have been in the 1500's to 20th century? (3/13/2014 2:03:33 AM)

I think I would have like to have been a Priest. Priest like meat sacrifices and you know good and well they didn't let those cooked animals of sacrifice goto waste. From what I've seen Priests are pretty well fed. How many skinny priests have you ever seen?

Perturabo -> RE: What would your job have been in the 1500's to 20th century? (3/13/2014 5:07:28 AM)

A monk.

warspite1 -> RE: What would your job have been in the 1500's to 20th century? (3/13/2014 7:15:31 AM)

One question for the OP. As with your other thread are we going back in time or being born in this earlier period?

If its the former, I think I will be an inventor. I may have a few good ideas worthy of introduction [;)]

No going back in time like a wayback machine. You are born in those times without knowledge of the future. But with an emphasis on what you'd like to be if you had grown up in those times.

I just have one other question. Who would have been a janitor back then. [:D] (You ever see the Black Knight?)

That was actually considered a very important position, only open to nobles. Even royal waste was divine.

I would most likely been a serf, but if I was to have a job like I have today, I guess I would be driving a cart around.

"Stand and deliver!" No DNA, No finger prints, no CCTV, seriously how the Hell did anyone ever get caught back then?

british exil -> RE: What would your job have been in the 1500's to 20th century? (3/16/2014 1:52:23 PM)

A job means getting a regular wage, I doubt most "jobs" back then would have included anything monetary. Maybe a roof over ones head and bread and water.

Most of us would be doing dirty work, due to the fact that we that we would have not enjoyed any schooling. How many of "our coloured members" would have been slaves?

It is nice to think we would have a fancy life, doing nice work, if we have to any. I think on my side, if I am honest, I would probably be wearing a red jacket and taking the kings sovereign. Maybe "working" in India or the Americas.

Mat

He he he, that sounds apparently correct [:D]

Anyways (not that I am trying to burst your bubble), the world was overwhelmingly rural AND small. Small communities whose members sometimes never left their parish. A nearby town 30 km away was de facto the end of the world to the overwhelming population.

Those of you who know small communities (I do) are aware of this: it's hard to keep a secret in a village.

And finally who are you going to rob? There was nothing to rob as everyone was utterly miserable [:D]

Oh yes, the rich. Well, pay attention to the device below [sm=terms.gif] They already know where they should hunt you: you are NOT living in a small rural community (a peasant), as the 95% of the population. You are hiding in woods and mountains... The aforementioned device will be put to good use and innocent members of the rural community might tell what are your whereabouts. Because again, it's hard -if not impossible- to keep a secret in small communities. And every member of the community (despite the fact they might never visit the closest town) knows every inch of their small word.

Bring the dogs and hunt the wild beast...

My dad's family were farmers in Oxfordshire, so I'm guessing that would have been my lot.

Fred98 -> RE: What would your job have been in the 1500's to 20th century? (3/16/2014 10:19:35 PM)

Trader. Preferable chairman of my own trading house.

But that is more of a dream. In reality I would probably been a peasant or a serf.
