Hi all. Sorry I can't answer questions about release dates etc but hey I'm out of that loop :( I can keep posting AARs though so I hope that satisfies for a while. This campaign is with an updated code engine and has some minor improvments to information screens. The more info the better I say cos it gives me a better picture on how to win :p Josan is the Russian leader Konev this time and he has the first turn. He wil no doubt be trying to form a pocket in much the same way I was last time. My immediate goals are to slow him down and try and restrict him from gaining vital Alert Points along the way (as they will give him replacements and reinforcements.) In the same line of thinking I hope to induce him into areas that will allocate me alert points in the process. During the course of this campaing I will try to capture screenshots of some of the more technical stuff as opposed to simply strategy so to give you an idea of what the game consists of and some of the ways to achieve you overall stategies. This first screenshot then is of the eatsern frontline after the Russian (obligatory) first move. Josan succeeded in clearing a lot of forts in this turn and cleared the way for the next moves. In the south I have marked with arrows the 'traditional' line of advance (this is because defence is weakest at these points) but overall the biggest threat is probably in the north where there is a vast concentration of cavalry and armour sitting on the frontline. Accordingly (fatalistically) I have retreated from every hex and left strongpoints where I could. I have moved most units back onto good defensive terrain (hoipefully) out of reach of some of those big guns in his rear. The Russian gets a 4+ tactical shift in the first turn from every combat involving artillery. This is of course devastating to the German and thereofre it is wise to retreat very quickly to get out of reach of the artillery and to count down the bonus (it goes from 4+ in the first turn to 3+ in the next etc). The screenshot below then shows my first defensive line. It is not complete but has some handy strongholds in the gaps. It will be interesting to see what Josan can achieve in his next turn. On the left side of the screen, there seem to be units coloured red and transparent. What are these?

Hi Joe Good question. The units that are coloured a faded red sortof colour are units that are 'fixed' in position awaiting release by 'high command'. In the campaign game all German units are like this in the very first Russian turn, and then slowly are released over the next few turns. This is to replicate the fact that the Corps Commanders could not simply move strategic reserves unless ordered. In fact the units on screen do not remian this way long. They are released on the German turn 3 or when a Russian Unit gets within a couple of hexes, whatever the sooner. Thgis puts some pressure on the Russian in fact as there are two relatively strong Panzer Divisions in reserve just beyond the river to the south and their very presence pushes you as Russian to get a move on before they are released and can block you or slow you down. I will try to screen capture these a bit more in the next turn. Brubaker
