Gaspote -> IJN training replacement experience (3/16/2014 1:47:24 PM)

Hi,
I don't understand something about IJN replacement experience.
In the scen 2, I initially get replacement experience of 50 and 2200 pilots, by the end of 1942 I probably get 3000-3500 pilots. Although the experience decrease to 45 but the HI cost increase.
With the tracker I didn't see any increase in replacement rate, so the increase of HI is associated to the increase of pilot in replacement pool. The fact that some player draw all pilot from replacement pool to reduce HI cost prove this too.

So why do the replacement experience didn't increase because pilots in the pool seems to train too ? I'm missing something ?

The HI cost is actually based on the number of pilots that haven't yet entered the replacement pool - it is the number of those in pilot training school. You can use TRACOM to speed these guys along just a little bit, or you can begin emptying the schools out to cut the costs. However you'll get very low-EXP pilots, especially once you get past the top quartile of the school.

I'm not sure exactly how the Replacement Exp level works, I just think that it slowly drops during the course of the war. Likely for the purposes of realism.

But I guess I'm not quite sure what you're asking.

If you open the 'intelligence screen', that's the fifth button from the left on the top of the screen, you'll see a 'pilot replacements' button on the right side. Open that and you'll see your pilot numbers and their experience level as they come out of the basic training program (on the right numbered 1-3,4-6,etc.). Those are the guys you pay Hi for, 'x' HI (I think its 5/per but I couldn't find it)per pilot assessed the 1st of the month. The experience level is just an 'average' of what has come out of the basic training program. I haven't played far enough into the game to see if the experience level changes over the course of the game. The added pilot numbers (at least for Japan) does go up later in the game. Now if you have pilots in the TRACOM pool they will assist in the basic training pool by advancing them through the program more quickly. Thus saving HI. Now you need at least 10 pilots in each facet of the TRACOM pool for this to work. Once this is done you will get messages in the OPS report telling you that 'x' number of pilots advanced training or something like that. This too will occur on the 1st of the month. Hope this helps.

too me it always felt like an exploit to completely drain the pilot replacements to get pilots for free (no HI cost that is). It just feels like the IJ player's dream of getting an endless no of pilots and not
having to pay for them. You only start "paying" for them in supply when you put them into an aircraft that is flying a training mission. Just doesn't feel right to me. Either you should get what Japan got real
life (not many) or you should get more and pay a price for it (HI cost).

Correct, but the HI cost in scen 2 are excessive and can cripple the Japanese economy. But you are right as this is really a scenario fix that is needed.

I think the extra HI cost in Scen 2 largely makes that scenario a wash for Japan compared to Scen 1. Even in the beginning, the cost starts at about 150% of what it is in Scen 1. On the other hand, I believe the pilots in the replacement pool have higher XP.

The upsides are frontloaded, but the downsides are backloaded (I'm thinking now that the increased number of factories in Scen 2, if used, probably outweighs the extra Supply that Japan starts with as well).

It's already the case if you don't draw all your pilot from the replacement pool.

I just ask why if I don't draw all pilot, it doesn't increase the xp instead of increasing the number (which make no sense for me).
It's like keeping a lot of Ki43 and when you see the number increase you start producing Ki27 [sm=00000280.gif]
