Vin -> Dw Universe Worth Buying ? (3/19/2014 10:17:20 AM)

Hi there

I have DW and all expansions and from reading what Universe has to offer there does not seem much point in buying it as it only offers a new story line and a few other bits and dabs.

The only thing that seems awesome is the ability to destroy planets if i am reading it correctly, but am i right in thinking that these are restricted to the new story line within Universe?? Can these be used in normal sandbox mode ??

hi there

since universe is not out yet and full list of features is not known, it's quite hard to judge. In my opinion it looks like a worthy buy, mainly because i expect great things from mods, but my decision whether to buy or not hasn't been made yet.

ability to destroy planets is already present, all you need to do is get one of those planet destroyer ships. universe will grant you ability to research necessary tech and build them on your own, but thats all if i understood correctly.

it is unknown at the moment whether you will be able to produce planet destroyers outside the scenario, but even if not - with new modding capabilities it should be fairly easy to make it possible.

I think i will hold off until further info and the price is announced but in the middle on if i will buy or not, perhaps the new modding features will eventually persuade me.
Where can i find these planet destroying ships in the current version ??

Thanks for the info garfield666 :)

i think they're part of the original distant worlds storyline and you can find them amongst ancient derelict ships that float around the galaxy(they're pretty rare though)

Yes, in DW, there is an ancient derelict ship that looks like the death star of star wars fame. When repaired, it can destroy an entire planet.

I would say it depends on pricing in addition to interest. I think it will be a different price for those with Shadows, compared to new buyers.

The extra mod support should benefit everyone at least somewhat interested in playing mods.

ASHBERY76 -> RE: Dw Universe Worth Buying ? (3/19/2014 3:37:02 PM)

It's more for new players and modders. If you have shadows and don't mod or intend too use new ones it's possibly not worth it.I have seen no mention of new features on the product page.

Like others have said. If you love to mod or love playing around with mod's (like me because I am too stupid to actually mod) then it is a resounding YES!

I am curious to see how big the discount is. I have no problem paying for even more game polishing as well though.

There are a few new techs by the look of it. One screenshot shows a tech for a wonder that allows for the breeding of giant kaltors. [:D]

Now let me breed tame Silvermists and we'll be talking... [:D][&o]

I'd imagine breeding Silvermist would require an enormous stream of resources for them to consume. You'd want a whole breeding planet for them to get started on :D

Come to think of it, I guess that should be true for Kaltors as well.
