Unable to define areas

I'm not able to define areas for whatever mission. Using the right click button 'define area' simply doesn't work with me.

Correction on earlier message: I can use right click button and designate define area, but I have to use the lift click to actually define the area for the mission.

Yes, that's how it's supposed to work.
