821Bobo -> RE: BrianG vs Bobo (no Brian pls) (4/4/2014 1:00:14 PM)

Yes that's true, but manpower is not the problem. At autumn I had been out of tanks therefore my main concern was getting tanks to front line units. Saving few trucks was a bonus and I don't give a toss if there are 900 or 1800 men in unit.

821Bobo -> Turn 33 (4/11/2014 10:40:28 AM)

29.1.1942 - 4.2.1942

With the Winter offensive over, there is not much to show now. Here are the final winter lines in north and destroyed units from the Kursk pocket.
Now I am trying to dig in to avoid March madness.

821Bobo -> Turn 34 (4/14/2014 11:37:02 AM)

5.2.1942-11.2.1942

Previous turn I have been too eager to farm some more Guard Cavalry corps and paid the price for it. Brian took advantage on the exposed CCs and pocketed them. Actually 2 of them were awarded with guard status this turn but won't enjoy it for long. [:(]

821Bobo -> RE: Turn 34 (4/14/2014 11:40:10 AM)

And the final Blizzard lines between Vyshny Volochek and Vyazma

821Bobo -> Turn 35 (4/16/2014 7:55:01 AM)

12.2.1942 - 18.2.1942

Mostly quiet on the Eastern Front so just another part of the front between Vyazma and Orel.

821Bobo -> Turn 35 (4/16/2014 7:57:01 AM)

I have started to build up STAVKA reserves. 49. Army is the first one.
Also the 3 pocketed CCs from previous turn were destroyed. [:o]

821Bobo -> RE: Turn 35 (4/16/2014 8:36:37 AM)

I need some advice regarding how to spend admin points. I am close to threshold and of course don't wanna waste them.
Every turn I am building few rifle brigades however it has a downside of reinforcements going to them and not to the frontline units.
I did not build any tank battalions yet because of tanks shortage. Now the tank pools are improving and I will build some but with 1 AP per battalion this will not solve how to spend the points.

gingerbread -> RE: Turn 35 (4/16/2014 12:03:39 PM)

Apart from rifle brigades, already building those, I take it, I really like the 36 gun 120mm mortar bat's. They will not win any battles, but they will increase the toll on the Axis when they activate in defense. They cause kills, not disruptions in my experience. Over time, they contribute nicely to Axis losses.

Each bat is 350 ARM/men, so 200 will cost 70k of each. 200 is enough for 5/army and some extra to give the armies in the area of the Axis '42 attack direction an extra 5.

I keep them in rear to gain exp and distribute to armies via rail traveling STAVKA in late April. You are a bit further in time, so building all in the rear is perhaps not an option this time. Once in place, they will not need much micro management, more like fire-and-forget.

821Bobo -> RE: Turn 35 (4/16/2014 12:19:32 PM)

I try to play historically plausible therefore 200 battalions is not option for me. Anyway thanks for the idea, I will for sure build some. Probably 1 per army + more in crucial sectors.

821Bobo -> RE: Turn 35 (4/16/2014 4:15:23 PM)

I took a look at the mortar battalion and it is not better to build regiments? Number of tubes is the same but regiments have more support squads and therefore should be more effective.

gingerbread -> RE: Turn 35 (4/16/2014 5:46:17 PM)

Yes, it is if you wait until it's available. I start early.

Regiments also can become guards.

M60A3TTS -> RE: Turn 35 (4/16/2014 9:30:45 PM)

I still prefer the battalions. More tooth to tail on the TO&E

Battalion- 36 tubes 356 men
42a Regt- 32 tubes 796 men
42b Regt- 36 tubes 856 men
42c Regt- 20 tubes 480 men

821Bobo -> Turn 36 - 37 (4/22/2014 8:12:32 AM)

19.2.1942 - 5.3.1942

Last 2 weeks of Blizzard. Both sides are recovering and digging. Very few actions.

Final Blizzard lines in Kursk - Charkov area.

821Bobo -> RE: Turn 36 - 37 (4/22/2014 8:13:16 AM)

And Donbas.

821Bobo -> Turn 38 (4/23/2014 7:28:33 AM)

5.3.1942 - 11.3.1942

March has started but no March madness so far.
The only sector regularly seeing actions is Crimea where I am trying to pound the Romanians. This turn I have conducted 2 attacks there. First with 2.5k vs 1.5k casualties but the second was little bit off. 3k vs 300 casualties attacking on mountain hex. Really!?

gingerbread -> RE: Turn 38 (4/23/2014 3:33:40 PM)

Probably elements that were damaged even before your attack. There had been only 1 non-blizzard player turn.

Also, you could check the effect of your bombers - did they damage a lot of elements?

Care to share some number of OOB strength and infantry formations - #Div & #Brig? Tanks are not interesting...

Where do you plan to be defending in early May i.e. the 1st clear turn?

821Bobo -> RE: Turn 38 (4/24/2014 7:28:29 AM)

AAR is 5 turns behind the game and I do not have number of inf formations for this turn. I will provide it later however they should not be much different from January numbers(they are on the first page of AAR)

I will probably defend forward. Not sure yet for the May. We are playing with random weather and therefore clear turns may come in April.

Thanks!

6.3M looks good.

821Bobo -> Turn 39 (4/25/2014 8:08:53 AM)

12.3.1942 - 18.3.1942

A quiet turn so just some production numbers. The armaments pool is nicely rising. [8D]

821Bobo -> Turn 40 (4/25/2014 8:20:55 AM)

19.3.1942 - 25.3.1942

Crimea saw some action this turn.
My attacks on Crimea attracted Brian's attention and at least 2 Panzer corps were moved there. At least 3 rifle divisions are doomed and fate of Sevastopol is in the air.
I have tried to attack the LSSAH but failed miserably.

821Bobo -> Turn 41 - 42 (4/28/2014 8:13:11 AM)

26.3.1942 - 8.4.1942

Fighting on Crimea continues. The 3 surrounded divisions were annihilated. Also part of the Sevastopol outer perimeter was captured. One of the defending divisions was not able to retreat or rout and surrendered as well. It seems only weather can now save Sevastopol.

821Bobo -> RE: Turn 41 - 42 (4/28/2014 8:19:08 AM)

Number of Soviet formations, OOB and losses from beginning of April.

Rifle divisions - 367
Cavalry corps - 14
Tank corps - 9
Mountain divisions - 5
Tank brigades - 78
Rifle brigades - 160

821Bobo -> Turn 43 (5/1/2014 9:38:14 AM)

9.4.1942 - 15.4.1942

Mud season continues with mud everywhere except North weather zone. Germans had launched dozens of attacks and destroyed my precious forts. Nothing disastrous so far.

[image]local://upfiles/37518/4544BD77553C4B60B4D05F74E7503CFB.jpg[/image]

821Bobo -> Turn 44 (5/1/2014 9:44:33 AM)

16.4.1942 - 22.4.1942

Finally mud everywhere. Nothing to report.

My first 12 TCs. Should I go with 3 TC per tank army or with 4? But with 4, tank army will be overloaded.

btw. Next turn the 1st Tank corps was redesigned to 5th Guard.

821Bobo -> Turn 45 (5/2/2014 7:59:31 AM)

23.4.1942 - 29.4.1942

Once again the weather played against me with clear weather on Crimea. As a result, Sevastopol had fallen with 3 Rifle divisions and 2 PVO regiments have been removed from Soviet OOB. I am pretty disappointed with this result.

- defending divisions were fresh (I've been rotating them regularly)
- 2 PVO regiments assigned to Sevastopol were not able to shot down anything
- Axis leading force were Panzers, in dense terrain with halved CV
- not a single Soviet fighter from Kuban appeared over Sevastopol (they were in range, in previous fights they participated in the battles)

Oshawott -> RE: Turn 45 (5/2/2014 11:49:48 AM)

Interesting combat results. I see a dramatic reduction in the Modified Combat Value in the Sevastopol battle. I would assume this has to do with the fact that Coastal Army is out of range and all the leader checks fail.

Regarding the failed intercept. I often notice that fighters don't intercept when there is superior Axis fighter cover. This is most annoying when the Axis player uses Ju-52 to resupply troops.

timmyab -> RE: BrianG vs Bobo (no Brian pls) (5/2/2014 12:51:39 PM)

One of the major annoyances of the game is that it's impossible to tell what happened at Sevastopol. Was it lack of local leadership or did the fort get reduced? Only the attacking player has any clue about whether the fort level was reduced and nobody knows anything about the leader checks.
Lack of local leadership isn't normally a problem in my experience, with defensive CVs as likely to quadruple as they are to halve, HQ or no HQ.
HQ's should be exempt from the 3 unit stacking limit in my view, but not having one within range should be a noticeable disadvantage. Not so much a chance of failing leader checks, but a certainty.

I agree that HQs should be excluded from the stack limit.
Aware about the disadvantage of missing HQ I had a dilemma if 2 RDs + HQ would not be better than 3 RDs w/o HQ.
But I am pretty sure that with 2 RDs + HQ Sevastopol would have been fallen as well.

Maximeba -> RE: BrianG vs Bobo (no Brian pls) (5/13/2014 1:41:49 AM)

Have you guys stopped playing?

821Bobo -> RE: BrianG vs Bobo (no Brian pls) (5/13/2014 2:23:38 PM)

Its still going on. Actually summer 42 started with expected disaster(7 armies lost) and I need some time to figure out what to do.
