derhexer -> Qustion about invasions (3/27/2014 4:13:19 PM)

I'm playing the Allied player in Downfall. I'm gathering my invasion fleet in Manila. Can I use the LCMs, LSMs, LCIs in Manila
to carry the 6th Army troops, or should I load them onto APs and APAs to carry tem to the invasion area?

I had read somewhere that troops moved long distances by Landing Craft became disorganized because of seasickness and crowding.

Thanks
Chris

There is a fatigue penalty for troops in combat load. This penalty applies to any ship type, not only for LC.

LC types are extremely effective in getting troops ashore, so for the landing there is no equal quality replacement for them. The journey from Manila should be short enough. Only switch to AP/APA type ships if your plan is to ship the 6th to another Allied base in closer vincinity to the landing area instead of attempting a direct landing.

Disruption applies to any type of transport, but it is much higher in landing craft than in AP/APA type ships. Daily disruption is a random amount up to the maximum amount for the transport ship type. See page 118 of the manual. Maximum daily disruption for an AP/APA is 5 points. Maximum daily disruption for a landing craft (LCM/LCT/LCVP) is 90 points.

Don't try to transport troops by landing craft if the transit distance requires more than one day. In practical terms, that means more than 2-3 hexes.

Thanks, msieving1, I'll use the APAs. Am already gathering them from bases across the Pacific.

You're absolutely correct! I missed this, thanks for the info!
