john g -> a few more rules for successful fighting (3/13/2001 6:35:00 AM)

About a week back there was a post of a dozen or so suggestions on how to improve your gameplay. Here a few more.
Never approach a victory hex cluster from the front. Go around a come at it from behind
The ai and a few scenario designers, will put loads of firepower on a line between where you start and where you want to go. If you take a different route, you bypass all that opposition and can take victory hexes without taking losses. Though you then have to fight to hold them which is generally easier now that you are the one sitting still and your opponent has to move.
When playing the ai, the southern part of the map is weaker at least 90% of the time.
After 40-50 assaults, both defending and attacking, I have seen the ai go strong in the south twice, once as an attacker once as a defender. Often the bottom 1/4 of the map isn't defended at all allowing you to do a Rommel and hook around to the rear of the defender and attack from the back side of all those pillboxes and mg nests. This is playing with the 5 victory cluster setup. Expect the ai to be strong in the center of the map and between the center and north forward cluster, but expect only token resistance for the southern forward cluster.
Also expect the ai to locate it's A0 unit near the northern rear victory cluster, if you want to take it out with a para drop that is where to look for it.
thanks, John.
