What do people on this forum use to get rid of pesky adware and popups. My Firefox browser has just updated itself, suddenly I'm getting a heap of popups.

Adblock Plus is fine. It removes even the ads from Youtube footage.

FireFox has the excellent "NoScript" plugin.

Noscript with Ghostery. Or Commercial ADGuard 5 with Ghostery.

And of Course... Hostsman

I use Chrome. It blocks pop-ups by default. I never see any, just a little icon that one was blocked.

As an aside, why would anyone want to block ads? All you're doing is giving a giant middle finger to the website operator whose content you're consuming and whose bandwidth bills are paid for by the ads.

From a Developers perspective I would not recommend NoScript as JavaScript and AJAX are becoming increasingly important for functionality of modern Websites.

I often wonder how people made a living and sold their products without ads? When did ads become a nessessity in survival or retail? Now, I'm all for ads that the producer are willing to pay for out of pocket without consumers becoming a part of that, but, this added charge on things for them to have ads and websites is getting a bit overboard. I'll continue to use adblockers at every avenue I can. I use "adaware" from Cnet myself. Works great and the producer can have all those ads they want and it doesn't bother me a bit. [:-]

You can select from which domain you block scripts. Also you can reload the page with all the scripts enabled.
