mikmykWS -> Need Help Researching Certain DB Requests If Anybody Has Some Time (4/15/2014 9:40:19 PM)

Hi all,

Have a few database items that we need help researching and if you'd could lend a hand we would be great reatful. If possible please list nonclassified open sources and if its a loadout or new system a picture really does speak a thousand words.

1. Iranian Mirage F.1EQ: Need current loadout data/pictures. We know they left with some of their original munitions but have no idea what the current state is. If you could find some pictures it would be great.

2.West German Mig-29: Anybody know the loadouts used for its West German service life. Strickly air to air? Pictures would be great.

3.Radar specs: Kelvin Hughes MKIV, 1 Kelvin Hughes Mk VI , Kelvin Hughes 500A surface Radars.

4.Myanmar's Aung Zeya-class Frigates. Lots of BS online and very blurry pictures. Need to know what SSM got fitted, sensors and pics would be great.

5.Stonefish Mk.III mine. Stats? Specifically type (bottom?), triggers, operational depth and warhead.

Thanks!

I did a bit of checking. You may have found these already, but here they are in case you missed them...

Hi,

Did the research on the Mig-29g (Germany) See attachment.

Broncepulido -> RE: Need Help Researching Certain DB Requests If Anybody Has Some Time (4/22/2014 1:04:48 AM)

Apparently in the unified Germany the MiG-29 trained only for air-to-air.
Were prepared for and received with up to 2xR-27T/AA-10a/b Alamo (IR and SARH variants), up to 6xR-73A/AA-11 Archer, and up to 6xR-60/AA-8 Aphid.
Also were received with up to 4xB-8 (in the four more inner pylons), with 20x80mm unguided rockets on each pod, showed with photos in the book referenced.
Also were received 1500 liter and 1150 centerline drop tanks, but without chutes for empty gun cases, the tank must to be dropped to fire the gun! Max speed with centerline tank attached 1.5 Mach.
Capables of carry 2x30 decoy cartridges.
N-019E radar (100 Km range, look-down shot-down capable), and SPO-15LM RWR.

Other mentioned options but not employed in German service were 240mm S-4 ground attacks rockets and dumb bombs, but apparently not received in the NVA before the unification (my German is even poorer than my English).
Climb 330 m/s.
Instantaneous turn rate, degrees second: 21 (F-16: 17.3).
Sustained turn rate, degrees second: 16 (F-16: 12.8).
Max speed at sea level: 1500 Km/h, 1.2 Mach.
Max speed 12000 m height and above: 2400 Km/h
Max practical ceiling 18000 m.
Max practical range at 500 m height, Mach 0.5, 710 Km.
Max practical range at 12000 m height, Mach 0,8, 1430 Km.
Acceleration rate at 1000 m height:
from 600 to 1100 Km/h 13.5 seconds.
from 1100 to 1300 Km/h 8.7 seconds.

The data are of the very detailed "Die MiG-29 in der Bundeswehr", by Wilfried Kopenhagen, Waffen-Arsenal number 141, Podzun-Pallas Verlag 1993.

Because the poor range and because budgetary limits, only seven MiG-29 were modified in 1999 with 2x1150 liter wing drop tanks, limiting them to 4g when carried. This last data come from "Luftwaffe Fulcrums", by Andreas Klein, AirDocs number 2, Erlangen, Germany 2002.

claims are that "UMS Aungzeya F11" would be fitted with 8 Kh35, however as far as I can tell it haven't been from the start as it initially had 4 SSM canister fitted:

The missiles would be North-Korean made "Kh-35-like":

Now, most recent pics shows, it seems, 2x4 canisters:

As for its electronic suite:
Combat Information Management System ZKJ -4 B / 6 (Thomson - CSF TAVITAC),
HN-900 Data link (Chinese equivalent of Link 11A/B),
Type 382 3D air/surface search radar (Sea Eagle S / C),
Type 344 (Mineral-ME Band Stand) OTH target acquisition and SSM fire control radar,
Type 345 (MR-90 Front Dome) SAM fire control radar,
MR-36A surface search radar (I-band),
Type 347G 76 mm gun fire control radar,
2 x Racal RM-1290 navigation radars (I-band),
Type 922 RWR,
HZ-100 ECM & ELINT system,
2 x Type 726-4 18-tube decoy rocket launchers.

(Much like #1965 - Type 054A Jiangkai II frigate class, while pics doesn't match, intriguing...)

Please note that Aung Zeya F11 seems to be the only ship of its class, the F12 and F14 "stealth frigate" would be Kyan Sittha Class.

The only pics showing any loadout only illustrate F-5E/F 275 US gal (1,014 lit) drop tanks:

As for the weapons:

"The IRIAF’s Deputy of Self-Sufficiency had adapted the Mirages to carry AIM-9J AAMs during Project Abrar but several live firings revealed the missile was not compatible with the existing armament system.(...)
(In 2012) the IRIAF’s Deputy of Operations issued permission for a live-test of the PL-7 at Chabahar, which was successful. Two aircraft were used during the tests: Mirage F1EQ-6 serial 3-6210 and F1BQ-3 serial 3-6407. Seven sorties were performed and during the last two, both aircraft launched missiles against two TDU-11/B aerial targets launched by an F-4D.
IACI then began adapting the R-73E missile for use by the Mirage. APU-73-1D missile launchers were installed under station two via a specially manufactured adaptor that included a computer interface. A missile
control panel was installed in the cockpit. Workability of the missile was tested on the ground using 3-6403, prior to its first post-overhaul check flight. The Cyrano IV radar was still not operational and the missile was tested without radar integration. At the same time, IACI’s Armament Department began to design outboard R-73 pylons for the Mirage. The department also started work on a junction box near the tail cone of 3-6201 in order to install AN/ALE-40 chaff/flare dispensers.

Today, four Mirage F1EQs, two F1EQ-2s, one F1EQ-4, two F1EQ-5s, nine F1EQ-6s and seven F1BQ-3s have been inducted into the IRIAF and, while in various states of repair, it is planned that all 25 jets will be returned to active service by 2020. In line with the current programme, the 102nd TFS could operate 18 upgraded Mirage F1s for air defence and anti-shipping roles by the same date.

No clue on what weapons they came with in 1991.

Does anybody know what that pod is? http://www.flugzeuginfo.net/acimages/mig29_kp.jpg

My guess is that it's a travel pod....

After Evaluation and refurbishment they went into service in June 1993, 20 single seat Mig-29G, 4 double seat Mig-29GT. 22 were handed over to Poland in 2003.

7 of them were refurbished to take on fueltanks on underwing stations for transatlantic travel.

Pretty much Air to Air only, 2xR-27R and 4xR-73; or 2xR60, 2xR73 and 2xR27(Maybe 2 and 2 for peacetime intercept?). It was their best fighter and they had only 24 of them, and they were always kept busy as adversaries for NATO nations. I would think they spent little time on A-G training.

Most pictures i can find are display, travel and adversary(ACMI gear) loadouts only, none look like operational pictures. They probably did little else then training other air forces.

As far as I know you are right MR_BURNS2. They couldn't be fuel tank since stations 3 and 4 are not "wet".

The books I have confirm that, they only served as Aggressors over various NATO training grounds.
