poaw -> [Finished]: Tanker Wars, 2017 (4/30/2014 7:04:23 PM)

USA vs. Iran
Date/Time: 20 April, 2017
Location: Persian Gulf
Playable Sides: USA

Introduction:
In response to diplomatic tension regarding possible violations of a nuclear proliferation agreement, Iran has declared a quarantine on military traffic in the region. Our partner nations in the region have scaled back their operations and civilian traffic has been complying with instructions from the Iranian Navy.

Your mission is to is to contest this state of affairs and demonstrate the United States Navy's commitment to freedom of navigation in international waters.

Scenario Design Notes:
This is a very small sea control scenario representing a likely mix of forces and objectives; inspired by, but down scaled from, Operation Praying Mantis during the Tanker Wars.

------------------

This scenario is short, very small (sub-100 AU), and very simple, but still enjoyable (I hope).

I'm looking for any feedback at all on this scenario, as it represents a slight departure from what I've done before (which is a bit of a pattern for me).

I included some speculative capabilities, specifically one LCS with a currently non-existent SSM mission package based on the recent exercises involving Admiral Rowden. I had to make an educated guess (augmented by a bit of research) as to what missile system they were referring to and try to reason out the rest, but I think I got is *close enough*.

Have fun.
EDIT1: 5-6-14 Balance and event changes, scoring criteria set. (35)

All right, finished it. Made it through the blockade intact. Only loss was a Seahawk that machine-gunned a crippled "special" freighter, then tried to repeat the process on a not-so-crippled one and paid for it. Only other mishap was me accidentally using autoengage on a group of small boats, which wasted my special missiles and had two of them hit innocent vessels-thankfully, they were not fatally harmed.

All the Iranian Navy managed to fire at me was one torpedo.

I don't know how hard you want to make this scenario, but here are some things I noticed were conspicuous by their absence:

-Enemy aircraft. This I rationalized as "Not wanting to escalate, and they know that if they send stuff up, the USAF will lock them down.
-Enemy ground defenses. Maybe deploy some stuff on Iranian-held islands and the mainland. As it stood in the current scenario, I took evasive action by taking a northern course near Iran itself, something that didn't feel right. Still, it's your call.
-Scoring levels. I scored 275, but it didn't have a value assigned.

Otherwise a good atmospheric scenario despite these small issues.

Scoring criteria set, events tweaked, balance altered to increase difficulty based on feedback.

Hey Poaw! [:)]
Enjoyed playing the scenario, espacially for its size (simple task, not too long, small scenario but still enough detail to make it feel alive).
Got nothing really to add, the only thing that comes to my mind is that the scenario, for its small size, felt like I was starting a modern day gulf war (I removed half of Iran's submarine force I think[:D]). I would give some more restrictions or guidelines for the doctrine in your briefing, being a bit more accurate how to react to Iranian aggressions.

That's all from my side. Work on!
Greetings

All looks good to me, got minor victory losing a seahawk that strayed too close to an unexpected target.
Kind of liked the fact that I relatively rapidly ran out of ammo!
