May/Jun 1940

1st Axis Impulse:

Land Combat:
Several attacks this impulse.

First the Swiss/German attack into France. France brings in two bombers with fighter escort for ground support, Switzerland sends up an interceptor.

Even with a slight Axis advantage, the first French bomber is cleared in the initial round, and then France aborts the rest.

May/Jun 1940

1st Axis Impulse:

Land Combat (continued):
The resulting ground support helps the French a lot, bringing the modifier down from around +10 to +6. France chooses the assault table.

Germany does not get the fractional, but rolls high with a 16. the 22 overall kills the French defender, but Axis must take an additional loss and half are disorganized. Germany decides to lose a MIL, and sends two ready Swiss corps into France.

May/Jun 1940

1st Axis Impulse:

Land Combat (continued):
In Southern France, the Spanish attack. with the Blitz table, Italy gets a +9.5 modifier.

They do not get the fractional and roll a 9, for 18 overall. The French must retreat, and Spain has to disorganize two units. Italy chooses to have the French unit retreat to the West, opening up a gap some to get to Marseilles.

May/Jun 1940

1st Axis Impulse:

Land Combat (continued):
In Cernauti, Bessarabia, Axis has a +10.3 modifier. Soviets pick the Assault table.

Germany once again does not get the fractional, and rolls a 12, for 22 overall. Really stinks that you can roll a 22 on the Assault table and still have to lose a unit. Axis must lose a unit (Rumanian INF) and disorganize 3 units, but the city is theirs.

May/Jun 1940

2nd Axis Impulse:

Land Combat:
Around 6 attacks are declared this impulse. As a player, I am being a little more aggressive with everyone, and am declaring attacks near +8 or above. Last game I really wanted to be over +10.

In France, an important attack along the Maginot line. Amazingly the Allies have scared the Germans from attacking through Belgium with the CW forces there in strength. The Swiss however have been a boon for the Axis and are helping roll up the French defenses. To assist in the ground attack, the Luftwaffe does a paradrop on a defending French unit.

May/Jun 1940

2nd Axis Impulse:

Land Combat (continued):
Now to the resolution phase. First attack is the one along the Maginot line. Germany has a lower modifier here, only +7.6667. France chooses the Assault table.

Germany doesn't get the fractional, but rolls well enough to get a 21, allowing them to advance into the hex

May/Jun 1940

2nd Axis Impulse:

Land Combat (continued):
Next attack is by Italian forces on a French 3-3 INF. With the ground support they have a +10 modifier.

France chooses the Blitz table to conserve forces and it works. Italy rolls a 21 overall, and chooses to convert to a retreat.
