R_TEAM -> Not working InternetPlay - LAN o.k. (5/12/2014 12:19:13 AM)

Hi,

have most time played by eMail or if i play over TCP/IP i have played at home on 2 PCs (LAN) - here it works flawless.
But this day, i have tryed to play an TCP/IP game over internet.
No sucess - realy a bad behavor of the game (that show his age in this part badly ...)

I have tryed by open the ports on my router.
Nothing - always the same error -> No directplay service exists on the host ....
Then i have full open my host to the Internet (DMZ) -> the same ...
Then i have activeted the UpNP automatic port routing (an thing i avoid - dont like other prgs. changing my open ports) - here i come one step further ... but then it stops with "session join error" ....
If i get the other PC over VPN IN my LAN virtualy, then i get by setting as IP the host IP the same error as over internet first time (service not exists..), if i leave the IP field blank, i get the error as by use of UpNP -> "join session error" ...

So sorry - have used over 30 games here running flawless over internet, as my PC as Host ... and i haved never such an trouble with Port forwarding and not working sessions ..

ATM the game is not playable over Inet.(only LAN)
Or i am wrong , and one know the solution ??
Systems on all 3 PCs (the 2 at home and the remote) Win7 Pro 64.

Hi,

additional info.
It looks we have last night doing anything wrong with the VPN setup on client side.(it was late :P )
So i will test this the next days - but it looks it runs in an correct VPN setup.
This make my post not invalid - this only confirmed it.
In an LAN environment who all PCs have the same IP adress range (like 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.255) it works.
But across the same IP range (typical over an extern network, like Internet) it not works.
The only solution ATM is to use VPN.Correct installed/settet up, it should mimic that all connectet PCs are in the same IP Range and make play over Inet workable ...
But this is not an good solution ....

It's good to know that network play still works in a LAN setting. It's also good to know that, by way of the VPN kludge, you can achieve Internet play.

But bullet-proof Internet play with or without VPN? Sorry, but achieving that is not a high priority for us. There are so many variable factors involved! And we have so many other things higher up the to-do list (not the least of which is releasing new games, Middle East for example).

In the forthcoming 2.01 Update, the updated manual has this caution:

quote:

Network Play is not presently actively supported. We hope to continue to support this in future updates.

The key word there is "hope". But don't get your hopes up too high.

Hi,

thanks for the answer :)
I know resources are limited ...
So i hope for better support in the future and play ATM over tunngle (this works flawless - beside the quirks with tunngle installment [registering/MANY,many advertising..] )
One suggestion - it would be nice to have the option to play 2 ore more players on one side VS the AI on the other side.
This is ATM imho not possible.
