Rudd -> P-8I ? (5/15/2014 1:17:09 AM)

Anybody know what's on the pylons of this Indian P-8I?

The US $2.1 billion-plus deal for aircraft covers onboard offensive and defensive systems and training. Weapons like the Boeing Harpoon Block II missiles, sonobuoys, Raytheon’s Mk 54 torpedoes, some freefall weapons, cost additional.

hints at "some freefall weapons"

They look like MK-62 Quickstrike mines (or some derivative) to me.

Morning,

BDU-45s, (500 lbs free-fall bomb, unguided) with SNP (Stell nose plugs) and MK 15 Snakeeye retarted/non retarted fins.

Airwinger,
Them being blue, does that mean they are inert?

Just curious...

Practice munitions if India uses NATO standard colour-marking. A close zoom does not appear to show any colour bands that would indicate the presence of pyrotechnics and so a drop-capable practice marker bomb although this is certainly possible even if entirely inert. Perhaps for aerodynamic testing and or weapons certification.

"B"omb "D"ummy "U"nit, and no blue doesn't always mean inert, it does however mean practice/dummy.

Thanks Randomizer and Airwinger for the info!!

Rudd -> RE: P-8I ? (5/16/2014 1:01:13 AM)

Some links say Mk82, some say quickstrike, some say dummy. I can't find a link between an Indian P-8I and a Dutch P-3. Does India and the Netherlands both have Mk82/83/84s? Do both have quickstrike mines? Do both have the same practice bombs or mines?

Another pic with the blue casing and Mk15 tail.(I think these are same as the ones on the P-8)
