Definitely a most interesting bug...
In the attached game, Vichy was declared without Italy having declared war against France.
As a result, Free France was at war with Germany, but not with Italy.
Much later, as US has entered the war and there no longer are US Entry effects, Italy declares war on Free France.
Here's where it becomes interesting: the game asks whether to align Free France to Germany (with which it is at war...)
and helpfully adds that otherwise it automatically surrenders.
If you align Free France to Germany:
- all Free French territories become aligned to Germany
- Occupied France becomes Free French (!)
- Germany gets to set up the whole Free French force pool (!) in its newly acquired territories...
If you don't:
- Free France surrenders to Japan (!)
- All Free French territories AND Occupied France AND Metropolitan Vichy France become Japanese-controlled.
Try it, it is rather funny... The attached game is saved just before the declaration of war by Italy on Free France.
Just declare war by Italy on Free France and see what happens.
