palad1n -> Australasian 2014 WIF convention report - bugs, anomalies (5/26/2014 5:01:58 AM)

Greetings all. Have just returned from the 2014 Australasian WIF convention. There were 3 tables of physical WIF and one game using Matrix WIF. Overall MWIF ran quite well - a few bug report screens and some anomalies popped up. We were running MWIF from about 0830 to 2200 each day (7 days), so we were pleased. Now to the anomalies.

1. Some instances of multiple ground strike missions essentially froze on the second strike. The button to click on to proceed to the next (second) step did not appear and all aircraft were highlighted. Multiple reloads did not solve the problem and we had to then limit ground strikes to one only.

2. A French sub in the Baltic, previously disorganised during an earlier impulse was allowed to intercept an AMPHIB entering the Baltic. This should not be the case.

3. The game froze during a port attack - after the die rolls for initiative. There was one French CV plane port striking an Italian port with 2 TRSs and 4/5 CPs. Multiple reloads did not resolve the problem. A missed Allied opportunity to try and sink those TRSs.

4. The system also seemed to skip a few phases at times. More like, how did we get to this step without doing this (prior) step. Nothing definitive though.

Sorry we couldn't send the bug report e-mails as we had no access to the internet.

Notwithstanding the above though, MWIF performed quite well considering the time it was running each day.

We were using version 1172.

Oops, I forgot to mention one more bug/anomaly. The CW attempted a port strike on Brest with 4 German subs. The port was damaged and thus should be a minor port. However the system did not allow the port strike to occur (the big cross not the expected target reticule. I suspect that the system still took the damaged major port to be a major port for port strike purposes (but for stacking purposes took it as a minor port).

A port strike with subs? [&:]

No he meant that the CW was doing a Port Strike on Brest and Brest had 4 German subs in the port

Not sure a damaged major port count as a minor for port strike.

Hope you have greats games in Australia :)

Thx Numydar.

The one regarding multiple ground strikes is strange. I haven't seen this happening and it's not on the bug list too. Is there a saved game for this available? Might come in handy to investigate.

Curious as to the venue and whether you played RAW8 or RAW7 on the physical tables and did Harry Rowland attend?

Thanks.

According to the Flyer for the convention, it was held in Mollymook, NSW.

Harry did turn up for a while. He had to return to Canberra early. The physical games played with 8.xx.

RAW 7 states a major port is a minor port until repaired by ENGRs (ENG construction option). A minor port with SUBs can be port striked. Another thought here was that France was still unconquered not Vichified, even though the axis controlled nearly all the French ports, but the software may have been treating the hexes as still being French (probably not likely but a thought). In any event, a damaged major port is a minor port (for all intents and purposes) and thus SUIBs can be port striked. As the CW player I was a bit miffed I couldn't have a go at those subs before they got back into my convoy lines.

We saved the game reasonably regularly, but I cannot remember if one of our saved versions was during/just before the ground strike anomaly. One of the players (axis) stumbled across something that fixed the missing click box, but he couldn't recreate it. Something about forcing a screen refresh.

I'll have a review of our saved games to see what comes up. If one happens to be at the right moment I'll send it in.
