One very frustrating thing about the resource planner is that moons are NOT listed with their parent planet. This means you can't select by name, hoping to see what’s in a specific system and make plans. All you see are the planets, (good so far) with random moons interspersed (not so good). If moons were named with the parent planet’s name first, then the display would show all you know about a system.
For example: In the system “Aprox” there are 5 planets and two moons. Naming the moons in this manner (with the planet name as a prefix) would enable the resource display to put the planets and their associated moons together when displaying info alphabetically. This would be a great help to human users making plans.

‘Aprox 1’ Barren rock <resources>
‘Aprox 2’ Barren rock < unknown >
‘Aprox 3’ Continental <resources>
‘Aprox 3-the Moon’ barren rock <resources>
‘Aprox 4’ Desert <resources>
‘Aprox 4 -Phobos’ barren rock <resources>
‘Aprox 4–Demos’ barren rock <resources>

‘Aprox 5’ Gas Giant <resources>
‘Aprox 6’ Frozen gas giant <resources>
‘Aprox 6 Europa’ Ice <resources>
‘Aprox 7’ Frozen gas giant <unknown>
‘Aprox 7’ Frozen gas giant < unknown >
‘Aprox 8’ Barren rock < unknown >

Any chance the designers could amend the code so moons don’t get unique names that break the alphabetical listing function of the resource planner display? I have asked for this several times over the past few years.

We veteran DW players have asked for this change in moon naming since the beginning of the series. For now, using the editor is the only way to rename planets and moons.

why is this am i missing something here?

Same problem with asteroids.

Sometimes it helps to sort list by distance, not always though. Also, if you have colony in the system, green color somewhat helps too.

For the love of space god, add column with system name, so you can sort with it, or add system filter, or both.

Yep, I remember this being an issue at release. It's a shame something as necessary and as basic hasn't been implemented yet. Either an extra colums for the system, or add the system name to the moon name in the same field.

if it was so simple im sure they would have added it. "simple" things can have massive repercussions when coding anything.

I would rather have distance sorting improved.

"Distant from what?". I would love to be able to to click a point in space and have distances calculated from that point. Currently I have to click on each one and use the little map indicator to see where the mines actually are.

i like that idea now where is the button to give you beans at[sm=00000289.gif]

Ha, everything here would be awesome but I have resigned to not having it, so I just fiddle endlessly. But even then the whole resource part of the game is so incredibly opaque I just role-play it (I AM A SPACE EMPEROR AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHATS GOING ON) instead of actually play.

Adding a column to the existing list with name of the system should be as simple as it gets. If it was not added, my guess is because it is deemed not necessary.

One great thing about Star Ruler is that you can mod user interface, community would sort this problem years ago if the same thing was possible in DW.

I've been coding for 30 years, and I still often use this line to scare outsiders.

Better yet, suggested back in 2010 too: when creating moon names, instead of "Oaakorus", name them "Sol 12 Oaakorus", that way both the display issues and sorting is dealt with.
