Darkwing -> Shadows AAR: The Olympian Republic (5/28/2014 2:10:50 PM)

Hi all, this is my second AAR (the first is The Arcadian Republic that I did a while back)

Game Setup
v1.9.0.7
Distant Worlds Extended Mod 3.0.2
My own addition of human ship images, based on ones I made from Star Blazers and some of Kathaniel’s models. System names based on Bayer designations. (I used the Game editor to change a handful)
Spiral Galaxy
Expansion: PreWarp
Research: Expensive
Aggression: Restless
Space Creatures: Normal
Difficulty: Hard
Pirates: Normal

Race: Human
Tech Level: PreWarp
Government: Republic
Auto-Generate 35 starting empires
All storylines enabled
No victory conditions - Sandbox mode

Spoiler Warning: I do have the storylines enabled, so parts of the story WILL be spoiled as I get to them in the game. Be warned.

The first two parts are now up, and I will be adding a new part roughly once a day:

Part 1 2100-2104
Part 2 2105-2109

Werewolf13 -> RE: Shadows AAR: The Olympian Republic (5/28/2014 3:23:58 PM)

Fun reads.
And here I thought that at game's beginning one had no choice but to pay the pirates off.

Darkwing -> RE: Shadows AAR: The Olympian Republic (5/28/2014 7:05:03 PM)

There is an element of luck in dealing with the initial pirates. When they show up and mean business, it can set you back pretty far. When I play, I like to develop a "mindset" for my government, and be faithful to that. For example, sometimes my governments will "never negotiate with pirates", even when doing so would gave me an in-game advantage. Other times I'm more willing to deal with them. But either way, I like to pick a "philosophy" and stick with it, dealing with the consequences.

And that's it! Part 19 of the Olympian Republic Campaign has been posted, and that wraps up the campaign.

Retreat1970 -> RE: Shadows AAR: The Olympian Republic (6/21/2014 1:10:59 PM)

Excellent Job. Have not read it all yet, but it's a good read. Hope you do another.

Darkwing -> RE: Shadows AAR: The Olympian Republic (6/21/2014 2:01:52 PM)

Thanks! What I need is comments like this so I know people are actually reading it so I know it's worth doing another...

Efaferal -> RE: Shadows AAR: The Olympian Republic (6/25/2014 2:52:10 PM)

Great AAR. Like the story telling narration.

Keston -> RE: Shadows AAR: The Olympian Republic (6/27/2014 10:31:41 AM)

Jolly good, an effective story well told with very handy screenshots. Having the full-map screenshot to intro each segment is helpful for getting oriented. Even in my own game, I find it hard to keep track of the web of relationships the way the diplomatic interface is set up - good for direct comparisons, but takes effort to maintain the big picture. You did a good job of explaining what was happening.

Hrdina -> RE: Shadows AAR: The Olympian Republic (8/9/2014 6:33:37 AM)

Thanks for posting this, I enjoyed reading it.

I've been having trouble keeping up with my favorite video AARs, so it is nice to come across a well-written text AAR.

llanite_slith -> RE: Shadows AAR: The Olympian Republic (8/27/2014 8:33:13 PM)

Really enjoyed this!

llanite_slith -> RE: Shadows AAR: The Olympian Republic (8/27/2014 8:34:05 PM)

I have to say - I have a preference for well-written text AARs.

Solastar -> RE: Shadows AAR: The Olympian Republic (2/3/2015 5:31:34 AM)

This was totally awesome! I'm only on episode 7, but I am hopeful for the future of the Olympian way! I enjoy the narration because its very similar to what im doin in my head while I play. I look forward to more.
