thefinn12345 -> So I totally ruined the game... (5/31/2014 4:26:46 PM)

Some new race the "Erutkah Refugees" popped up right next to me, I just thought "those guys are way too close" and just set about destroying them. I killed their homeworld and a message pops up from the ancients...

"You just killed the shakturi. Game over, you won!"

[:(]

I grabbed a screenshot of my piddly fleet of destroyers, carriers and a couple of capitals surrounding this giant deathball of shakturi that just spawned". Alas I cannot put it here as I don't meet the criteria.

LOL, good job m8 this is a fine example of why the current system for the Shkturi is not working.

Shark7 -> RE: So I totally ruined the game... (5/31/2014 4:59:35 PM)

Hmm, well it happens. I generally play in a sandbox, so there is no such thing as 'winning the game'. It's over when I decide it is.

tjhkkr -> RE: So I totally ruined the game... (5/31/2014 5:31:38 PM)

How early in the game did you encounter them?
Did you play easy?
And what level technology did you have?

I think the Shakturi appear when everyone is at level 5 technology... and they should not be that easy to defeat... unless you played easy level.
There might be something amiss with the game if you have not modified the game events in any way and had that happen way early in the game...
Poor Elliot, you need all kinds of data to know what is up... especially with all of the modding going on...

Antarian -> RE: So I totally ruined the game... (5/31/2014 5:39:25 PM)

That's hard to believe, I met them mid-game and hit them with two full klingon battlefleets. They laughed as my measily weapons pew-pewed off their near impregnable shields, and shredded all my ships in a few shots with their end game beam weapons.

What was funny was they thought I was ultra-evil and wanted to buddy buddy with me.

Did you not get the memo?

We are Klingons. We hate everyone.

they reveal them self's at tech 5, they are there for a while before with out high techs and world destroyer's.

Keep in mind that I once located a refugee colony of them and had them colonize a planet for me. However that was a random ruin thing.

This sounds more like they either appeared early, or the trigger was somehow not fully implemented.

Good work! The Shakturi are annoying and deserved it. :)

I usually uncheck them myself.

DeadlyShoe -> RE: So I totally ruined the game... (6/1/2014 2:51:24 PM)

they seem to spawn later in universe than they did in legends.

Wizaerd -> RE: So I totally ruined the game... (6/1/2014 4:13:00 PM)

I haven't played enough to know anything for sure, but is it possible they're always there hidden as refugees, and only "reveal" themselves as Shakturi when tech level hits 5? And if you accidentally run across the "refugees" before they reveal themselves, you can indeed wipe them out early? Just wondering...

DeadlyShoe -> RE: So I totally ruined the game... (6/1/2014 4:55:21 PM)

Nah, I believe they arrive in response to a set of criteria. Time, tech levels, and beacon activation...something.

If they arrive near you they'll present themselves as intergalactic refugees, thus the Erutkah Refugees, and take possession of some world or another. I'm not sure if the palace of eternal darkness is preexisting or not.

Eldaner -> RE: So I totally ruined the game... (6/15/2014 4:19:48 AM)

I had close situation. These guys appeared near my cluster at year 2150 (started at 2100 as standart empire at normal). I was most powerful and had 2/3 techs (Guardians 2nd in power, 1st in tech)
15 troop ships as welcome party at capital and 1 on colony have landed 1kk attack power (7 ships lost)
4 fleets (4-8 ships each) catching incoming bad boys (totally it was 3 fleets with 20-30 ships). 2/3+ incoming ships boarded and retired. Oh my new techs!
Both planets conquered. All ships/bases became mine. Game continues.
1 year after I won due meeting win conditions.
Now 2157. looking for Shakturi [:)]

They def aren't there all along. A spot is chosen at the given time. Because I had an explorer with scanners in ever sector.

I really don't think I like them. Not because it is hard, but because it is inconsistant what the relative strength you and the AIs are when they appear from one game to the next. They can totally ruin a game where you were doing quite well playing a trading game rather than a military one, or perhaps a game where you were concentrating on key wonders, or enslavement. Even if you are playing the military game, sometimes they pop out when you are teched up and sometimes they pop out when you are have no chance because of your tech.

They also make me fearful to trade techs with others, as that is suspect to their triggering.

Not only that, but they force you to instantly ally everyone you can and obliterate the game strategy you had previous to their arrival. You can't really play a game with friends and foes being planned, because when they arrive, you pretty much need 3/4ths the galaxy to fight them until you get max armor and a weapon.

Perhaps if that last armor tech wasn't such a huge step from the previous.. They are pretty much invulnerable to your weapons when they come out 9/10 times. The most you casn do is hope to scare them off by lowering their shields, but that won't help vs the planet destroyers. Guarantee one or two of someone colonies are getting zapped.

It just turns the game on its arse from how it would otherwise progress and that I do not like. I love challenge, but not deviation from my goals. I wish the regualar AI posed as much of a threat, but I am still trying different settings to find the sweet spot. If only each test didn't last a week :P But at least its fun.

Unforeseen -> RE: So I totally ruined the game... (6/15/2014 12:04:06 PM)

I find it a bit aggravating when people say the Shakturi spawn at a specific point in the game. It's pretty obvious that they are triggered by beacon activations and can appear at any point in the game. I saw them once when i was barely out of tech 2..

What you just described is what makes DW one of the very best 4X space games available.

In real life fecal matter quite often hits the fan unexpectedly. One just deals with it. Games where that is not true are boring as hell and not worth playing. Predictable, controllable, no surprises. Might as well just break out EXCEL and play on a spreadsheet.

rcuadro -> RE: So I totally ruined the game... (6/16/2014 8:26:27 PM)

If you play a custom game as a standard empire, I'm fairly certain one of the options will allow you to turn them off.
